Poem for
Dollie Howard nee Thompson

Dollie Howard nee Thompson

“The Heart and Soul of the Howard Family”

A gentle refined beautiful lady with lots of class

Everyone loved this calm, non-judgmental, lass

Of adversity she never spoke; gossip she held at bay

Country folk knew unkindness was never her way

An apron she always wore as she tidied up the house

Her work was never done tho she scurried like a mouse

The floors she washed daily as cleanliness must prevail

Ornaments and pictures everywhere- treasures not for sale!

A meal her visitors must have as soon as they come

So much news of family and such- now for some fun

The organ and fiddles a sure way to delight some said

Dollie and Bert played till friends were ready for bed

The yarns, tales and family stories told and retold

Provided the clan with strength and roots to unfold

Dollie was the family heart- a silent leader she was

Generations of Howards still follow her example because-…
