Descendants of Franklin Noble Howard
Generation No. 1 1. FRANKLIN NOBLE8 HOWARD (FERNANDO JAMES7, JOHN6, SAMUEL5, ELDER NATHAN4, NATHAN3, THOMAS2, ROBERT1) was born 16 September 1872 in Blackhawk County, Iowa, United States of America, and died September 1966 in North Bend District, Saskatchewan, Canada. Notes for FRANKLIN NOBLE HOWARD: In 1903, Frank and Bert Howard came by train to Davidson, Saskatchewan. Frank stayed but Bert returned to his family in Kansas. On the 19 July 1904, Ralph and Bert left Manhattan, Kansas by team and Prairie Schooner, intending to drive to Davidson, Saskatchewan. Ralph came down with typhoid fever when they reached Parker, South Dakota and nearly died. His mother, Alice Pomeroy-Howard, came by train from Kansas and nursed him through it. Bert worked until after threshing there and then sold the team and prairie Schooner and went back to Kansas. However as soon as Ralph recovered sufficiently he wrote Frank, who was still at Davidson to send him the fare and he would join him there. They spent the winter in the Elbow region of the South Saskatchewan River, hunting, trapping, and exploring over much of the territory that is now under Diefenbaker Lake, (made by the Gardener Dam). They gradually worked their way across country until they arrived at Lloydminster, in the spring of 1906. Here, they decided that if they had some good draft horses, they could push out into the unsettled north and do enough homestead duties to establish a permanent camp. This done, they could ranch for farm and hunt and trap a bit to augment the income. They decided to go south to Lethbridge, and look for what they wanted. They sold their team, harness, and wagon and took the train to Lethbridge. They got work in a Mormon settlement where they could get the horses they wanted and earned their outfit. And worked most of the summer haying and on into the fall. Their brother-in-law Will Campbell also worked there for a time joined them here. It began to rain and the haying was not quite done. Frank returned from Chetwynd, BC in 1956 to live in retirement with Will and Ruby Campbell. Frank passed away in 1966 at the age of 94 years.
