Trading posts
Rupert's Land
Assiniboia, NWT
Province of Saskatchewan
The Kindersley Gen Web Region is located along the Alberta Saskatchewan border,, between highways #7 and #1. The South Saskatchewan River runs through the center of this area.

The mandate of Kindersley Regional Gen Web is to provide access to genealogical transcripts relating to this South Western portion of Saskatchewan.

Trading Posts
According to the Atlas of Saskatchewan there were several early trading posts first established in Rupert's Land, the earliest name for this geographical area. In 1670 Rupert's Land belonged to "The Governor and Company of Adventurers of England trading into Hudson's Bay" or the "Hudson's Bay Company". As early as 1800, Chesterfield House was the name of the trading posts located at the confluence of the Red Deer River and South Saskatchewan River. Empress on the 4th meridian and Estuary east of the confluence are the two closest placenames to the confluence. Henry Youle Hind explored the area with John Palliser. The Kindersley Gen Web area lay in the midst of the Palliser Trainale considered to be an extension of the Great American Desert, and unsuitable for development in agriculture. Hind had found berries along the river bank. John Macoun, "Explorer of the Northwest territories" explored the western lands in 1872, a year of plentiful rain, and found the conditions favourable for agricultural concerns.

Rupert's Land
The Rupert's Land Act of 1868 authorized the transfer of land from the The Hudson Bay company to Canada. ?300,000.00 was paid to the Hudson Bay Company under the Rupert's Land and North-Western Territory Order of 1870. The western expanse of Canada became known as the North West Territories.

North West Territories
The North West Territories were divided into districts for administration. The south provisional district was named Assiniboia (The 33rd township southward to the U.A Canada border). Kindersley Gen web geographical area was within Assiniboia. Placename addresses between 1870 and 1905 would have been Rush Lake, Assiniboia, North West Territories or Tompkins, Assiniboia, North West Territories.

Province of Saskatchewan
According to this map circa 1904-1905, there were no place names in the Kindersley Gen Web region before 1905. When searching Saskatchewan placenames the most common date to establish a post office, (one of the first actions of a new settlement) in the Kindersley Gen Web region is between 1909 and 1915, or about 1910.
