General Notes:

James was tried at the Surry Quarter Sessions on 1st July 1834 and sentenced to life transportation. The convict records show his age as 15 years old, that he could read and write, he was a Protestant and his abode was London. His occupation was a Grocer's Boy and that he had been convicted of Picking Pockets - he had no previous convictions.
James is described as being 4 foot 8 and a quarter inches tall (1.406m), he was of fair ruddy complexion, fair hair and bluish eyes. James had JLRL and a tobacco pipe tattooed on his lower right arm and SP on his lower left arm.
James arrived in Sydney on 31st October 1835 aboard the 'Mary Ann' (4)
James was granted a Ticket of Leave No 45/282 on 13th February 1845 and a Pardon on 2nd February 1852.
In her declaration of travel in 1858, his sister Sophia refers to her brother already living in Goulburn, NSW
