Shakespeare News

As author of the site I must apologise for the lack of recent updates due to pressure of work.

Information continues to come in from a number of dedicated researchers old and new. This will be added to the site when time allows. Below is a brief taste of 'things to come' :

The Leicestershire and Mansfield Shakespeares

Recent information shows that the Leicestershire family originated in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, where they can be traced with certainty to the late 1490's. Intriguingly, they used the same, and unusual, Christian names familiar to those of us who have looked at the Wroxall & Rowington families of Warwickshire, namely (if you will excuse the pun) Robert, Richard, and Peter - these are not common names at this time, and strongly hint at a possible relationship.

The Origins of the Poet, William Shakespeare

Now that it has been established that William's grandfather was not Richard Shakespeare, 'of Snitterfield', as most of the biographies would have you believe, there has been further work to look at his origins, or rather, those of his father, John Shakespeare, Glover, of Stratford. There is more to come on John's origins, but this is very much a 'work in progress' - in this case progress may be slow, but given that everyone else for a couple of hundred years has been searching for the origin of Richard Shakespeare 'of Snitterfield' - previously presumed to have been the 'Poet's Grandfather - then I hope a little more time may be excused!!
