The Mail List is for queries, responses, shared information, hints, tips, etc, related to genealogy and history in the region described in the next paragraph. Rootsweb hosts Mail Lists for any of the USGenWeb web site hosts that are on Rootsweb but to keep it orderly, lists are asked to be named based on a county so, extreme Southeastern Kentucky's list is the KYHARLAN List.
Our new list is NOT restricted to Harlan County but also covers it's "child" counties: Letcher (1842 from Harlan & Perry), Bell (1867 from Harlan and Knox), and Leslie (1878 from Harlan, Clay and Perry); it's "parent" county, Knox (Harlan formed in 1819 from Knox); and it's longtime neighbor, Clay (formed in 1807 from Knox, Floyd and Madison). There are few rules for the list, mostly, "Be Nice", no flaming (personal attacks) other people, no way off topic postings. If in doubt, post to the listowner at [email protected] and ask, this particularly includes the well meant but usually false virus warnings.
To subscribe to the list, send an email to:
Once you have joined the list, you send posts (messages) to the list, addressed to: There are also smaller, quieter lists specifically for Bell and Leslie Counties. Just substitute BELL or LESLIE for HARLAN in the instructions above. |
