William T. MIDDLETON was born about 1830(1) probably on Cloverfork in Harlan County, Kentucky. He was the son of Walter and Sarah TURNER MIDDLETON. William T. was killed 3 December 1872 by his first cousin, Devil Jim Turner. He was buried on Sals' Branch. About 1847, he married Narcissa HOWARD, born about Feb 1829, daughter of Samuel HOWARD and Elizabeth (BARRETT?). They lived on Cloverfork, not far from Mt Pleasant (the present day City of Harlan) and were next door to his parents in the 1850 census. In 1900, Narcissa is living with her son John Morgan MIDDLETON.
William T MIDDLETON served in the 25th Virginia Cavalry, a Confederate unit, in the Civil War. On 9 January 1867, he petitioned the Governor of Kentucky for a pardon which he was granted 22 January 1867 (see Following the Footsteps column #69).
She received a Confederate widow's pension.
