Bethel Lutheran Cemetery is located 2 1/2 miles west of Claire City in the Southwest quarter of section 22, Norway Township, Roberts County, South Dakota. Bethel Lutheran Church was organised in 1893 and closed in 1965. The last Pastor was Rev. John Meling. There is no longer a church building on the property, but the church bell has been mounted on a stand at the entrance to the cemetery. This survey was conducted on August 15, 2001. Although this is not the official record of burials in this cemetery, it should be current to that date. Comments enclosed in quotation marks " " are taken directly from the gravestones and may have been translated from Norwegian to English in some cases. Comments enclosed in parenthesis ( ) are my personal comments. There may be burials, without markers, not listed here. I do not know who hold the official records for this Church and cemetery.
