FIRST GENERATION

Pierre Ménard was born about 1549 in Of Notre-Dame de L’Esvières, Angers, France.
Pierre Ménard married Madeleine Forest at Paris, Ile De France. She was born about 1559 in Notre-Dame de L’Esvières, Angers, France. Madeleine died in Notre-Dame de L’Esvières, Angers, France.

Children of Pierre and Madeleine Ménard is:

1. Jean Ménard, born 1607, in Mervent, Fontenay le Comte, Poitou, Vendée, France.

Note: Pierre and Madeleine may not be Jean Ménard’s parents.  More research is needed.


SECOND GENERATION

Jean Menard was born 1607 in Mervent, Fontenay Le Compte, Poitou, France. He was the son of Pierre Ménard and Madeleine Forest. His occupation is not known. Date of death for Jean Ménard not known. He was buried at Poitou, France. Jean married Anne Savinelle on 1628 at Mervent, Fontenay Le Fontenay Le Compte, Poitou, France. Anne’s parents not known. She was buried at Poitou, France.

Children of Jean and Madeleine are:

1. Jacques Ménard born about 1624 or 1629 .


 THIRD GENERATION

Jacques Menard dit LaFontaine was born about 1624 or 1629 in Mervent, Fontenary, Poitou, France. He was the son of Jean Ménard and Anne Savinelle. Jacques was the first of the Ménard family to leave France for Canada. He was a wheelwright. Jacques Ménard married Catherine Forestier on November 19, 1657 in Trois-Rivières, Québec. She was the daughter of Jean Forestier and Julienne Coiffes. Catherine Forestier was born about 1637 or 1640 in La Rochelle, Aunis, Charente - Maritime, France. Jacques died January 14, 1707 in Boucherville, Québec and was buried January 15, 1707 at Ste. Famille, Boucherville, Chambly, Québec.

Children of Jacques and Catherine Ménard are:

1. Marguerite Ménard born Sep 04, 1658 at Trois-Rivières, St. Maurice, Québec. She died before the year 1666 in Trois-Rivières, Québec.
2. Marie Ménard was born Sep 07, 1659 at Trois-Rivières, Québec. She married Jacques Bourdon on Feb 8, 1672 at Boucherville, Ste-Famille, Québec. Jacques Bourdon was born on June 5 1645 at St. Godard, Rouen, Normandie, France. His parents were Jean Bourdon and Marguerite Legris. Marie and Jacques had fourteen children. Jacques Bourdon died on August 7 1724 and was buried at Boucherville, Ste. Famile, Québec. Marie later married Antoine Quenneville on May 26 1710 at Longueuil, Chambly, Québec. Antoine Quenneville was born abt 1655 at Trois-Rivières, St. Maurice, Québec. There is no record of any children born to Marie and Antoine or date of Antoine’s death. Marie died July 2, 1726 at Boucherville, Québec.
3. Jean-Baptiste Menard was born Nov 27, 1660 at Trois-Rivières, Québec. He married Marguerite Louise Étienne on Oct 14, 1681 at Boucherville, Québec. They had one daughter. Jean-Baptiste Ménard died Oct 29, 1728 at Montréal, Québec and was buried Oct 29, 1728 at Montréal, Ile De Montréal, Québec.
4. Louis Menard was born July 28, 1662 at Trois-Rivières, Québec. He married Marie Anne Fevrier on Dec 12, 1691 at Boucherville, Québec. They had eleven children. Louis Ménard died May 1742 at Boucherville, Québec.
5. Maurcie Menard dit LaFontaine was born June 06, 1664 at Trois-Rivières, Maurice, Québec. He married Madeleine Couc on Oct 1681 at the Mission St. Ignace, Fort Michillimakinac Michigan. They had nine children. Maurice died May 9, 1741 at Chambly, Québec.
6. Jean Menard dit Bellerose was born March 14, 1666 at Trois-Rivières, Québec. He was Christened on March 16, 1666 at Trois-Rivières, St. Maurice, Québec. He married Élisabeth Valiquet on March 13, 1690 at Boucherville, Québec. They had one child named Catherine. Jean Ménard died May 7, 1702 at Boucherville, Chambly, Québec.
7. Marguerite Menard was born January 22, 1668 at Montréal, Québec. She married François Lanctot on Oct 14, 1681 at Boucherville, Québec.
8. Jeanne Françosise Ménard was born May 21, 1669 at Trois-Rivières, Québec. She married Étienne Demers November 25, 1686 at Boucherville, Québec.
9. Anne Ménard was born April 1, 1671 at Boucherville, Chambly, Québec. She married François Brunet on November 15, 1688 at Boucherville, Chambly, Québec.
10. Catherine Ménard was born September 27, 1673 at Boucherville, Québec. She married Jacques Rivière on February 1, 1699 at Boucherville, Chambly, Québec.
11. Marie Madeleine Ménard was born January 17, 1675 at Boucherville, Québec. She died January 30, 1675 at Boucheville, Québec.


FOURTH GENERATION

Maurice Menard dit LaFontaine was born June 06, 1664 in Trois-Rivières, Maurice, Québec and was Christened June 7, 1664 in Trois-Rivières, St. Maurice, Québec. He was the son of Jacques Ménard and Catherine Forestier. Maurice was an interpreter and Fur Trader at Fort Michillimakinac. Maurice married Madeleine Couc LaFleur on October 1681, at the Mission St. Ignace, Fort Michillimakinac, Michigan. She was the daughter of Pierre Couc-LaFleur and Marie Miteouamigoukoue. Maurice Ménard died May 9, 1741 at Chambly, Québec.

Children of Maurice and Madeleine Ménard:

1. Marie-Madeleine Ménard married Charles Pavie LaFleur on 1714. Date of birth or date of death not known.
2. Antoine Menard was born April 28, 1695 at Fort Michillimakinac. He married Marie Huet Dulude on 7 Jan 1723 in Boucherville. He was an active fur trader. Antoine Ménard died June 3, 1764 at Chambly, Québec.
3. Louis Ménard was born 1697. He was Christened in the year 1697 at Fort Michillimakinac. Louis was an active fur trader. He married Françoise Rodidoux on February 5 1725 at Longueuil, Chambly, Québec.
4. Pierre Ménard was born March 12, 1701 at Boucherville, Québec.
5. Jean-Baptiste Ménard was born July 11, 1703 at Boucherville, Québec.
6. Susanne Ménard was born on July 21, 1706 at Boucherville, Québec. She married Gabriel Bolon at Fort Michillimakinac on January 7, 1725/26.
7. Francois Menard was born on February 06, 1709 at Fort Michillimakinac. He married Marie Charlotte Jeanne Robert Jeanne on 13 Aug 1736 in Laprairie.
8. Marguerite Ménard was born on July 20, 1711 at Boucherville, Québec. She died July 24, 1711 at Boucherville, Québec.


FIFTH GENERATION

Francois Menard was born on February 06, 1709 at Fort Michillimakinac. He married Marie Charlotte Jeanne Robert Jeanne on 13 Aug 1736 in Laprairie.

Children were:

1. Louis François was born before 1737. He married Marie Angélique Amable ROSE on 20 Oct 1760 in Sault-au-Récollet.
2. Pierre was born before 1739. He married Amable Geneviève Angélique SICARD on 2 Feb 1761 in Rivière-des-Prairies.
3. Marie Anne was born before 1741. She married Jean Pierre CHULLE BELAIR on 9 Jan 1759 in Sault-au-Récollet.
4. Michel was born on 28 Dec 1742 in Montréal and died on 2 Jan 1743 in Montréal.
5. Pierre was born on 27 May 1745 in Montréal and died on 5 June 1745 in Longueuil.
6. Marie Charles Charlotte was born on 27 May 1747 in Sault-au-Récollet and died on 17 July 1747 in Montréal.
7. Marie Charlotte was born on 28 Nov and died on 30 Dec 1749 in Sault-au-Récollet
8. Jean-Baptiste was born on 26 Dec 1750 and died on 11 Oct 1751 in Sault-au-Récollet.
9. Hyacinthe was born on 29 May 1752 in St-Vincent-de-Paul.
10. Marie Cécile was born on 22 Aug 1755 and died on 20 April 1755 in Sault-au-Récollet.


SIXTH GENERATION

Pierre Menard was born before 1739. He died in 1780. Pierre was married on February 2, 1761 to Genevieve Amable Sicard in Rivière-Des-Prai, Ile De Montréal. Geneveive was born June 16, 1741 at Rivière-Des-Prai, Ile De Montréal, Québec. She was the daughter of Joseph Sicard and Marie Angélique Brazeau. Geneviève died December 7, 1815 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.

Children of Pierre and Geneviève Ménard:

1. Joseph Ménard was born in 1763. Joseph married Cécil Robert on January 14, 1791 at Detroit, Wayne, Michigan. She was born on June 6, 1776 at the farm of - - - Godfroy on the South West Coast of Detroit. Her parents were Peter Robert and Magdelene Casse dit St. Aubin. Joseph and Cecil had seven children. She died in the year 1776 and was buried on April 15, 1815 at St. Antoine, River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.
Joseph Ménard remarried on December 11, 1815. His new wife was Frances Lenfant, born June 1773 at Corlac. Her parents were Joseph Lenfant and Frances Tessier. Joseph Ménard died in the year 1816 and was buried on June 14, 1816 at St. Antoine, River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.
2. Mary Angelica Ménard was born 1765 at St. Antoine River Raisin. She married Peter Dumay on November 19, 1780 at Detroit, Michigan. She died on January 20, 1802 and buried at St. Antoine River Raisin.
3. John Mary Ménard was born about 1771 at Sandwich, Essex, Ontario. He married Mary Jacob on April 22, 1793. He was buried on September 7, 1795 at St. Antoine, River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.
4. Francis Mary Ménard was born on April 1, 1773 at Detroit, Wayne, Michigan. He was the son of Pierre Ménard and Geneviève Amable Sicard. He died on September 1, 1805 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.
5. Mary Joseph Ménard was born August 7, 1775 at South West Coast of Detroit, Michigan. She died February 20, 1776 at Detroit, Michigan.
6. Anthony Ménard was born May 31, ?? at South West Coast of Detroit, Michigan. He died July 9, 1777 at Detroit, Michigan.
7. Anthony Ménard was born March 31, 1779 at Detroit, Michigan.


SEVENTH GENERATION

Francis Mary Ménard was born on April 1, 1773 at Detroit, Wayne, Michigan. He was the son of Pierre Ménard and Geneviève Amable Sicard. He died on September 1, 1805 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan. Francis married Angelica Jacob on Jan 19, 1791 at Detroit, Wayne, Michigan. She was born on February 16, 1774 at Sandwich Essex, Ontario and was the daughter of Étienne Jacob and Madeleine Gode. Angelica died December 31, 1812 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.

Children of Francis Mary and Angelica are:

1. Francis Ménard was born February 6, 1796 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan. He married Catherine Chauvin on November 25, 1821 at St Antoine, River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.
2. John Mary Ménard was born March 31, 1798 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.
3. Margaret Ménard was born May 5, 1794 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.
4. Mary Clara Ménard born August 12, 1800 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan. Mary married Louis Gagnier on September 16, 1816.
5. Geneveva Amable Ménard was born November 1792 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.
6. Angelica Ménard was born November 1792 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan. She died January 29, 1828 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.
7. Stephen Ménard was born December 8, 1802 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.
8. Peter Joseph Ménard was born December 24, 1804 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.


EIGHTH GENERATION

John Mary Ménard was born on March 31, 1798 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan. He was the son of Francis Mary Ménard and Angelica Jacob. During the War of 1812, John enlisted in the military and was listed on the Michigan roster as serving in the 2nd Regiment of Michigan Milita, John Anderson Commanding (Monroe). His Military Unit was Jacques Martin's Company of infantry (21soldiers listed) and John held the rank of private. His service date was from August 4, 1812 to August 16, 1812. He surrendered at Monroe and after the war he became a farmer. On March 27, 1821 at the age of 25, John married Margaret Julia Levry (Martin). Julia was born on April 19, 1804 in St. Antoine, River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan. She was the daughter of James Levry and Mary Louisa Bernard dit Lajoie. John was an invalid when Julia died January 18, 1871 at Michigan. He stayed with Agnes’s daughter, Mrs. Peter Pete and died at Erie, Michigan.

Children of John and Margaret Ménard are:

1. Henry Ménard born about 1832 at Michigan.
2. Monique Ménard born about 1834 at Erie, Monroe, Michigan.
3. Peter Ménard born April 17, 1838 at Erie, Monroe, Michigan.
4. Julia Ménard born about 1840 at Michigan.
5. Marcy Ménard born about 1842 at Michigan.
6. Mary Ménard born about 1844 at Michigan.
7. Mary Ann Ménard born May 2, 1824 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.
8. Angelica Ménard born June 1822 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan. She died March 15, 1823 at River Raisin, Monroe, Michigan.


NINTH GENERATION

Peter Ménard (Manor/Manore) was born on April 17, 1838 at Erie, Monroe, Michigan. He was the son of John Mary Ménard and Margaret Julia Levry (Martin). His occupation was a farmer. He died on June 3, 1921 at Pukwana, South Dakota and was buried at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Brule, South Dakota. Peter Manore married Margaret Rowe on Oct 09, 1860 at Erie, Monroe Michigan. She was born on June 26, 1841 or 1848 at Erie, Monroe, Michigan and died Sept 18, 1814 at Pukwana, South Dakota. Her parents may be John Baptist Rowe and Geneveve Jacob. As of now there is no evidence as to John and Geneveve being the parents of Margaret. Margaret spoke only French. They both are buried in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Brule, South Dakota. The 1860 Census shows that Peter had changed the spelling of his last name from Ménard to Manor. After he and his family left Michigan and arrived at Brule County, South Dakota, Peter was spelling his last name Manore. The Peter Manore family came to Brule County, South Dakota about 1886. They sold everything at Erie, Michigan and divided their money into three money belts with Peter, Alex, and Noah each wearing one. Mrs. George Anderson, daughter-in-law of Hattie Manore, had a red shawl that Mrs. Manore wrapped around young Hattie during the cold train trip to South Dakota. A man offered a coat and this man they believed to have been Jesse James.

Children of Peter and Julia Manore are:

1. Mary Roseline Manore was born Aug 1, 1861 at Erie, Michigan. She married Joseph J. Jacobs on October 3, 1879.
2. Zora Manore was born October 7, 1863 at Erie, Michigan. She died February 25, 1932. Her spouse was Gus Jacobs of Puckwana, South Dakota.
3. Joseph Manore was born on August 8, 1865 at Erie, Michigan. His spouse was Millie Lavoy of Pukwana, South Dakota. They married in February of 1889 and they farmed south of Chamberlain.  They divorced in 1898.  In December 1900 Joseph married Grace Howard.
4. Alex Manore was born Nov 24, 1867 at Erie, Michigan. He married on Nov 25, 1900 Mae, last name not known.
5. Noah Manore was born Aug 4, 1869 at Erie, Michigan. He died March 19, 1931 at Pukwana, South Dakota and was buried in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Brule, South Dakota.
6. Susan Manore was born June 7, 1871 at Erie, Monroe, Michigan. Susan Manore’s spouse was Tom Taylor. She died Nov 26, 1952 at Pueblo, Colorado. Susan was buried at Pukwana, Brule, South Dakota.
7. Agnes Manore, Born 1874 at Erie, Michigan. She married Jim Corisino.
8. Addie Manore was born 1877 at Erie, Michigan. She married Henry Clement.
9. John Manore was born Sep 25, 1881 at Erie, Michigan. His spouse was Iva Motter. He died May 27, 1913 and was buried in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Brule, South Dakota.
10. Margret Manore born 1883.
11. Hattie Manore was born in Erie, Michigan. She married Oliver Anderson on Jan 1904.


TENTH GENERATION

John Mesnard (Ménard/Manor/Manore) was born Sep 25, 1881 at Erie, Monroe, Michigan. He was the son of Peter Manore and Margaret Rowe. About 1886, John moved with his parents to Brule County, South Dakota and grew up around the town of Puckwana. When John was of age he changed his last name. He did not like how Manore sounded and decided to change it to Mesnard. John appears on the 1910 Census for Stanley County, South Dakota. He was 29 years old, and lists his occupation as bartender. The reference for this is Supervisor’s District 2, Enumeration District 100, Sheet 13 B in Stanley County. Later part of Stanley County became Jackson County. John Mesnard married Iva Frances Motter. In 1911, John bought land in Jackson County, South Dakota . He owned a saloon in Belvidere, South Dakota. It was at this saloon that John was involved in a gunfight. The story is that someone stole John’s gun and ran out of the saloon. John ran after the thief and the thief fired at John but the bullet hit the outside wall of the saloon causing a splinter of wood to enter John’s eye. A few days later John traveled to Omaha, Nebraska for medical attention. He died at Omaha on May 27, 1913. He was buried at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Pukwana, South Dakota.

Children of John and Iva Mesnard are:

1. Eldred Loren Mesnard Born March 16, 1912, possibly at Belvidere, South Dakota. He died January 8, 1998 at Colorado Springs, Colorado and Buried at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Colorado.


ELEVENTH GENERATION

Eldred Loren Mesnard Born March 16, 1912. He married Hilma Lien in June 30 1940. He died January 8, 1998 at Colorado Springs, Colorado and Buried at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Children of Eldred and Hilma Mesnard is:
