married Carolina Ericksson April 01, 1885 in Bygdea, Vasterbotten, Sweden,
daughter of Erik Eriksson and Brita Andersdotter. She was born August 31, 1861
in Kryckeltjarn/Noradgarforst, Degerfors,, and died April 24, 1934 in
Presho,
Lyman, South Dakota.
Notes for Nils Petter Andersson:
In 1868-his father dies of TB when he's 6; ironic twist of fate which will
repeat itself with Nils & his son. In 1873 he is relocated with one sister in
Gulltjarn, Bygdea. On 10/4/1880- Nils moves to Kryckeltjarn, Degerfors, Bygdea
(military service?); his sister moves to Soderhamn (marriage?).
Nils marries Caroline 5/2/1886 & emigrates from Kryckeltjarn to America
6/17/1886 to join brother John who has homesteaded in McCook Cnty. (see map) On
arrival Nils learns all the local land has already been homesteaded. Nils &
Caroline raise 5 kids: Arthur, Ida�(later to become Mable Crist's mom),
Charles�(later Ruby Anderson's father-in-law)--Oscar & John who died in infancy.
See family photo of them in Montrose. In 1888, Nils & Johan help their widowed
mother Elizabeth Burman and their brother Grandpa Anderson Astrom with his wife
& daughter Hilma (see photo) come to USA. Nils, unable to farm, starts the tiny
town of Center by becoming its 1st merchant as he starts the Center Store, near
the Center Lutheran Church and Center School. (see map)
But in 1894, when Nils
hears that the last western Indian lands have just opened up for homesteading
not far from the Missouri River near Presho in Lyman County in South Dakota they
decide to move there. It had been their lifelong dream since their days in
Sweden. They homestead Section 18 of 106N 77W. Sadly, however, TB strikes Nils
in 1900 and the family returns to Center only to have Nils die. Widow Caroline
tries to run the store (Center Store later operated by Ben and Mayme Howe). In
1904 she returns to their Presho homestead only to have sorrow strike again as
TB stikes eldest son Arthur. What follows is recorded on page 274 of the �Lyman
County History�, as follows: "Widowed Caroline having heard 'The West' is
better for TB, takes family in a covered wagon to Colorado in a grueling 6-week
trip fording streams, battling storms and withstanding heat to no avail... in
1908 Arthur dies anyway at Boulder, CO...� The girl, Ida, stays for a bit to
work in the hospital; but the widow with her two boys return to their Presho
farm. Ida later returns via Canada. After the boys grow up they leave the farm
for greener pastures in Nebraska and later Colorado so Caroline gives up the
farm and lives out her days both in Center and at her childrens� homes. Caroline
dies at the home of her daughter, Ida (Mrs Geo Nelson). The Bureau of Land

Brita Catharina Andersdotter, married May 2 1886; emigrate June 17 1886.

Brighton, CO. She married George Nordal Nelson July 05, 1911 in Lead, SD, son
of Nicklas Nelson and Mary Fredrickson. He was born July 28, 1881 in Renville
Co., MN, and died January 26, 1967 in Hudson, CO.

Daughter of granduncle Nils Anderson & Carolina Erickson of Center, SD family's
emigrant pioneers. Ida was born at Center in the great blizzard of 1888 moving as
young girl with family NW of Presho.
1911 Married, moving to Valentine, NE to
homestead. Gladys, 1st of 4 daughters was born Cody, NE. 1917. After 6 yrs, they
returned to Lyman Co, SD in a covered wagon to farm for 33 years;4 of 5
children were born in Presho, SD and her mother Caroline died there at
Ida's home there.
1940. Family abandons farm; moves to Hudson, CO to brother Charles; George
becomes trucker. In 1967 George dies; Ida goes to live with daughter Eileen in
Bolder CO; descendants lived mostly in CO & UT. In 1976 Ida dies, is buried in
Englewood, CO where Mabel Crist lives.
Notes for George Nordal Nelson:
In 1893, George moved with parents from MN to
Chamberlain, SD and on to Presho,
Lyman Co, SD. As a boy/young man, worked with his father in sheep ranching & cowpunching. He helped build the Milwaukee RR as it made its way west.
1906-07�(Both the North Western & Milwaukee RR build west from the Missouri
River to Rapid City. The North Western beat the Milwaukee to Rapid City.
Development of western SD was greatly aided by 2 RR links with eastern
markets.1906--The Milwaukee RR begins construction of its Pacific Coast
Extension, when completed in 1909, gave the Milwaukee a line to the Pacific
coast and put SD on a transcontinental rail line.) In 1911 George married Ida
Anderson, daughter of Nils Anderson and Carolina Erickson, Center, SD pioneers
and they moved to Valentine, NE where they homesteaded. Gladys, 1st of 4
daughters was born Cody, NE. In 1917. After 6 yrs, they returned to Lyman Co, SD
in a covered wagon to farm for 33 years; 4 of 5 children were born in Presho,
SD. In 1940, the family moved to Hudson, CO.

Pioneers, she wrote 'The Pioneers" poem which appeared in 'Pasque Petals' June,
