Although I have given William SIDERY (So36) as son of John SIDERY & Mary COWDERY, baptised in Upton in 1729, it is possible that he was instead son of John's brother Thomas SIDERY & Hester WITHERELL, and baptised 9 Aug 1730 in Blewbury. (Upton was a chapelry in the parish of Blewbury.) However, I think William was more likely to have been son of John and Mary as, in addition to his apparent age at death, he did not name any of his children Thomas or Hester, and East Hendred Manor records refer to him as being late of Upton (see below). Also, John and Mary SIDERY had a daughter Elizabeth who married a John HARRIS in 1757, and it is possible that this John HARRIS was the one who witnessed William's marriage to Mary WILDER in 1768.

Transcribed extracts from East Hendred Manor records indicate that William SIDERY (So36) was a customary tenant of the manor, referring to him as late of Upton, Berks, yeoman. At a Court Baron on 31 Oct 1817 he was noted as having died some time since, and it was found that William SIDERY of Lee, Kent, bricklayer was his oldest son and heir at law.

Variant spellings of the surname SIDERY include SIDDERY, SIDEREY, SIDREY, SIDRIE, SIDRY, SYDRY etc.
