BRIEF HISTORY:
Marion County was initially created in 1785 as
the county of Liberty in old Georgetown District, one of the original
judicial districts created in 1769. In 1798 when courthouse districts were created
in South Carolina, the name "Marion District" was first used, honoring
General Francis Marion of Revolutionary War fame. In 1910 Dillon County was created,
carved from the upper portion of Marion County.
Not sure if it's in Dillon or Marion County?
