I married Thomas Benjamin Cox. He died in 1990, age 50. His father was Isaac Benjamin Cox from Horry county. His brothers were Sanford Cox and James Cox. Sanford in Conway, and Jimmy in N.C. I am trying to find some family heritage, but I can only find the names Joseph and John. I know Isaac's father was married to a Bellamy, and earlier in the 1700's one of the Cox girls married a John Frink. They all come from Horry county, and owned a lot of property in Myrtle Beach. Do you think the Cox's I found (Joseph, John) are the same Cox's ? Or would that be another family of Cox's? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Peggy F. Cox

HUCKS, SKIPPER posted by Timothy and Dorothy Hause on Wednesday, January 6, 1999

I am seeking any info on Henry and Becky{Rebecca?} SKIPPER of Galivants Ferry. They were my great grandparents on my fathers side. I do not have any dates for birth or death and have not found them on any of the census for Horry county. They had 5 daughters,Rachel [my grandmother]Mary, May, Carie and Nettie. Also one son Daniel. My grandmother Rachel SKIPPER married Armp HUCKS who also was from Galivants Ferry, Armp died when my dad was only 6 so that would be around 1916. My father tells me they had several children but he is the only one to survive. My grandfather Armp had one other brother named George HUCKS. After the death of my grandfather Armp, my grandmother married again to Daniel TURNER early 1920's, they moved to Marion County. He had children and I don't know if they were his or theirs; Luan, Roland, Henry, Marie, Ethel and Maude. My great aunt Mary SKIPPER married a SELLERS and had eleven children; Henry, Aldon, Greer, Monroe, Cissaro, Donnie,Duck[nic name], Queet, Erverly and Ester. My father Henry James HUCKS was born 8/10/1910 so his parents were probably born in the late 1800's, and his grandparents mid 1800's. If anyone has any info I would truly appreciate it. Rachel SKIPPER HUCKS TURNER is buried in Reedy Creek cemetary and Armp HUCKS is buried in Rohobeth cemetary. Atleast that is what I've been told. I can't understand why none of these names appear on any of the census I've searched for Horry County. I live a long way from there and would appreciate any help. I was born in S.C. and know there are thousands of HUCKS' and SKIPPER'S I just need to make the connection. It is hard to do when you live so far away. Thank you for any help, Dorothy

DOZIER, GRAHAM, HEWITT, LAMPLEY, SHEFFEE, SHEFFIELD, SKIPPER, WATTS posted by Pam Ricks on Thursday, January 14, 1999

I am researching one JOHN SHEFFIELD, lived Dover England in 1750 with wife Abigail. They had 2 sons, John Timothy and George. John was a seafaring man and in mid-life acquired ships in numbers. George Sheffield went to France in 1771 and at the age of 19, married Celeste Aumont. He then possibly changed his name to Shefee. George and Celeste had 2 sons and 1 daughter. I know that Celeste and daughter were supposed to have escaped to England in 1793. The 2 sons, Paul and George II escaped to the Americas and landed at Charleston, S.C. From there Paul's history is lost but it is said that both boys changed their names back to Sheffield again. George prospered in the shipping business also and at the age of 26, in the year 1800, met and married Elizabeth Grey. She bore 2 daughters and 2 sons. They were Jean, Elizabeth, Martha, and George. Jean ran away from home and settled in Georgetown, S.C. where he skippered a riverboat. Jean married an Indian girl known only by the name he gave her, Lenora Lightwater. His father denounced him and after that, he was known as JEAN SKIPPER. Jean and Lenora had 7 sons and 1 daughter. I only have info on one son, John Skipper who married Martha Lattimore. GLISSON, GRAINGER, HESTER, JOHNS posted by Julie Baxter on Sunday, January 17, 1999

Hi, I recently found some Graingers/Grangers listed in Horry County that I believe were related to me. My grandfather was Willis Jacob Granger born 1920. In researching, I found someone's list from my greatgrandfather Curtis Lee Granger to his ggggrandfather Furney Granger in Horry County around 1800. The list shows Furney Granger born around 1765. However, he wasn't listed anywhere that I can find until around 1800's. May be some relation there.

FOWLER, HICKMAN posted by Bill Fowler on Wednesday, January 27, 1999

Giles Fowler (b 2/4/1844 in the Whiteville, NC, area; m 12/21/1865 in Whiteville; d 8/10/1909 in Florida) and Anna Debora Hickman (b 11/13/1847 in SC; d 6/29/1891 in Florida) are my great-grandparents. They moved to Florida. Anna Debora's father was E. F. Hickman, but I know no more about her family. Giles' father appears to have been EITHER Henry Fowler OR Gilbert Fowler (both were sons of Reuben Fowler), depending on which data source one chooses to believe. Apparently even the now-deceased author of "A History of the Fowler Family of Southeastern North Carolina", Richard Gildart Fowler, changed his mind at least once on this. Oral history in our family says that Giles' father was Gilbert, but Gilbert would have been only 19 when Giles was born in 1844, and Gilbert's wife Sarah is shown as being born in 1838. Their known children all are much younger than Giles. Was there perhaps a wife earlier than Sarah? In the case of Henry, who would have been 21-22 at Giles' birth, sources show five other children and usually show them as older than Giles (but with no given birthdates), which is highly unlikely. If you can help with information about the family backgound of Anna Debora Hickman and/or the true parentage of Giles Fowler, I will appreciate it.
