Gregg's Brigade & McGowan's Brigade
Fairfield County's Part in
Gregg's (later McGowan's) Brigade
According to the intersection of these 2 sources:
(1) J. F. J. Caldwell's The History of a Brigade of South Carolinians, Known First as "Gregg's" and Subsequently as "McGowan's Brigade.", Chapter 1, which says "The regiments which composed Gregg's brigade ... were ...
the 1st S.C. volunteers,the 12th S.C. volunteers,
the 13th S.C. volunteers,the 14th S.C. volunteers,
and Orr's regiment of rifles."
(2) Of the above 5 infantry regiments we find the following on the Confederate Monument in Winnsboro:
12TH S.C.V.I. (on the west side)
13TH S.C.V.I. (on the north side)
The History of a Brigade of South Carolinians,
Known First as "Gregg's" and
Subsequently as "McGowan's Brigade."
