bulletEdgefield County Local Libraries

Local libraries are a most valuable resource to the genealogist. They typically have collections of local history, local newspaper archives, and city directories among their materials.

bulletInterlibrary Loans

Interlibrary loan is a fantastic tool to obtain access to materials that are not in your local libraries. The reference librarian at your library will be able to help you work through the process of acquiring materials through interlibrary loan. However, it is a good idea to complete some of the footwork yourself to speed the process along. First, locate the library that has the material that you wish to borrow. Then research the process the owning library uses for interlibrary loan, if available. Take carefule notes of the name of the library and its address for interlibrary loan requests along with a specific description of the material desired. This may include a book title or microfilm titles and dates. The last step is to take this information to your local library and follow their process for interlibrary loan.

Interlibrary load is especially useful for obtaining microfilm for newspapers, books and, in some cases, vitial statistics. There usually is a small fee involved.

bulletOn-Line Libraries

Several major libraries have their catalogs available on line.

bulletOn-Line Genealogical Catalogs
