Andrew Jackson McCarty & his wife, Susan Pope Abney McCarty

Andrew Jackson McCarty, son of Dennis McCarty, Sr., was born 18 March 1815 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.  Andrew married (1)Henrietta Marie Steward 1 November 1835, in Edgefield, South Carolina, the daughter of William and Sarah Steward. Henrietta was born abt. 1817 in South Carolina and died February 1848 in Edgefield, South Carolina Andrew married (2) Susan Pope Abney 28 October 1849, daughter of Jacob P. and Dolly Kirksey Abney. Susan was born 15 December 1826 in South Carolina, and died 30 December 1896 in Lee County, Mississippi. They were married at the home of John Kirksey, father of Dolly Kirksey.

During the Civil War Andrew McCarty fought with the Confederacy enlisting in the 5th Regiment, Company K, South Carolina reserves by Captain Bettis.   Following the devastation of the Civil War, Andrew McCarty and his family moved to Lee County, Mississippi. Andrew died 2 January 1893 in Lee County, Mississippi. Andrew and Susan are buried in the Boguefala Cemetery. 

The following children were born to Andrew and first wife, Henrietta Steward: Mary M. and William D. McCarty. Andrew and Susan McCarty had the following children: Louisiana (Laura) America, Joseph Ann Saluda, Henrietta Savannah, Christopher Columbus, Ida Seabille, Alda Jackson,  and Morovia Bavaria McCarty.
