  • BROGDEN / McPHERSON - Steve Edgerton, 2/21/04
I am searching for the descendants of Silas Brogen and his wife Christian McPherson who married 15 May 1804 in Cumberland County, NC.  I believe Christian and Silas may have moved to Chesterfield District to be with the family of her brother, Malcolm McPherson.  Perhaps they all moved there together.  I want to establish that Christian was the sister of Malcolm who died in the Chesterfield District in 1850.

  • DITTO - Steve Ditto, 4/17/04
I am trying to locate my descendant Shadrach Ditto.  He is listed in the 1810 census in Chesterfield County, SC.  He was in the 1800 census in Richmond County, NC, right across the border.  He originally came down from Chatham County, NC.  He was about 55 - 65 years old in 1810.  From reading thus far, it seems like there may be few records from that time because of a fire.  Thank you for any help.

  • KIRKLEY - Maxine Bobco, 10/10/04
I am originally from Chesterfield County, SC and I am trying to trace my Kirkley roots.  I am a descendant of Asa Kirkley born 1816 who was the son of Rachel Kirkley born about 1782, died 1862.  I am trying to determine who Rachel's husband was.  I have all of the information on the settlement of her estate in 1862 which lists all of her children (Elizabeth married John Sullivan, Una married Clyburn Blackwell, John A., Asa, Thomas, Mary married Thomas Ogburn, Rosanna married James Dunn, Sarah married Abram Sullivan. However, there is no mention of who her husband was.  He died before 1830.  I have seen speculation about there being an Asa Kirkley Sr. and it seems most of the people who say that claim their information came from you.  Does anyone have information on an Asa Sr?  I haven't seen any proof.  Thanks.

My father, now deceased, was born in Lee County, SC, but lived in Cheraw until he joined the Army in the late 1930's.  He use to tell me stories about his ancestor (either great or great great grandfather) having served in the SC Militia during the Civil War.  I wonder where I might find information about that and my family in Chesterfield County?  My father was John Tyson Murdock born 27 February 1919; my uncle was Lacoast Murdock; my grandmother was Lillie Hodge Murdock, and my grandfather was John Tyson Murdock.  Thanks in advance.

  • THREATT - Charles Bridges, 7/05/04
My great grandfather, John Alexander Knight was born 12 June 1836 and died 16 April 1912 in Avoca, OK.  My grandfather says his mother's maiden name was Abergail Threatt.  She died shortly after his birth on 3 Apr 1868 in Chesterfield, SC.  The 1860 census for Chesterfield, SC (page 154) shows Thomas Threatt, age 32.  In the household were Flora, age 19; Mary A., age 17; Evan Knight, age 24; and a female age 15.  I take her name to be Abagail and believe she was my great grandmother.  I need someone to also look at the census and see if they agree on the name.  Others have come up with interesting variations and assume the first letter is an "S".  Could someone help me confirm this once and for all.  Thanks.
