Jerry Lane Marion, 61, of Moncks Corner, a retired U.S. Navy CWO4, died July 28, 2006, at a North Charleston hospital. The funeral was at 2 p.m. July 30, at Russell Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Whispering Pines Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Mr. Marion was born May 22, 1945, in High Point, NC, a son of Garland Marion and Doris Hayworth Marion. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Moncks Corner, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, a Mason and a Shriner. Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Owens Marion of Moncks Corner; his mother of Moncks Corner; two daughters, Tammy M. Morgan of Moncks Corner and Joy M. Mildred Young McBride, 88, of Cross, S.C., a retired secretary for the Charleston Naval Shipyard, died April 12, 2006, at her residence. Arrangements were directed by Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner.

John W. "Big John" McClary of St. Stephen, SC died Aug. 9, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services were held Aug. 14 at St. Stephen Baptist Church with the Rev. Harvey Mack and Rev. Edward Butler officiating. Burial, directed by Gethers Funeral Home, was in Tri-Churches Cemetery. Mr. McClary was born Aug. 16, 1942, in St. Stephen, SC, son of James and Bertha McClary. He was educated in Berkeley County Schools and graduated in 1961. He received a degree in Electronics from Voorhees College, Denmark, SC. He was a member of St. Stephen Baptist Church. He relocated to Baltimore, MD. Mr. McClary began his career at Westinghouse Electric as an electrician. He was also an entrepreneur and started his own business, a janitorial company. "Big John" operated a building maintenance training program through the City of Baltimore Empowerment Program, "A Second Chance." He served on several boards and committees throughout the City of Baltimore. Survivors include: his wife, Betty A. McClary; his son, Shawn Sterling McClary; three grandsons; four sisters, Lillie Miller, Beatrice Brown and Anna McClary,and Darlene Morton of Baltimore, MD; one brother, Ronald R. McClary of Baltimore, MD; five sisters-in-law;

nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann Wix McClannahan, 64, of Goose Creek, SC, a retired cafeteria manager for the Berkeley County School District, died Friday in a local nursing home. The funeral will be 2:00 PM Monday afternoon, Feb. 27, 2006, in the Moncks Corner Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will follow in Berkeley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM this Sunday evening. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Hospice of Charleston, 3870 Leeds Ave., Suite 101, N. Charleston, SC 29405. Mrs. McClannahan was born March 14, 1941, in Moncks Corner, SC, a daughter of Berry C. Wix and Eva Clark Wix. She was a graduate of Berkeley High School and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. Surviving are, a daughter, Donna Brant of N. Charleston; a son, Keith Brant and his wife, Cindy, of Goose Creek; her parents of Moncks Corner; a sister, Carol McLaughlin of Summerville; and three grandchildren, Tyler Lares, Kristen Brant, and Kadi Brant.

Onita Jaynes McKinnon, 73, of Ladson, SC, a former legal secretary for various Charleston area law firms, died Aug. 19, 2006, at her residence. Moncks Corner, May 18 1942. Morris J. Motte: Funeral services were held this afternoon at Parks Funeral home in Summerville for Morris J. Motte who died at his home in Berkeley County Saturday night. Services were conducted by the Rev. James E. James and the Rev. B. F. Covington; burial was in Boone Hill Methodist cemetery. Masonic rites were conducted at the grave by Berkeley Lodge No. 269 of which Mr. Motte was an honorary life member. W.E. Law directed the Masonic service. Mr. Motte was eighty-seven years old and was born at Exeter Plantation. He was a direct descendant of Colonel William Rhett Alexander Broughton and Isaac Motte and on his maternal side was a distant cousin of the late Marshal Haig, British World War I leader. He was twice married, first to Miss Georgie Jones; she died some years ago and his second wife, the former Miss Jane Sweat, survives him. Mr. Motte was President of the Barrows Democratic Club for sixty-two years and served as Berkeley representative in the legislature. He was also a magistrate for a number of years. Mrs. Mary Jane Sweatt Motte, widow of Morris J. Motte, died here Friday at the home of a niece, Mrs. Harris Manning of 2300 Mount Pleasant St. Funeral services will be held at Bonne [sic] Hill Methodist Church cemetery, with the Rev. J. E. Tysinger officiating, according to the Parks Funeral Home of Summerville. Pallbearers will be B.R. Sweatt, H.M. Sweatt, S.J. Sweatt, R.H. Magee, D.W. Jolly and W.G. Charpie. A native of Summerville, Mrs. Motte was 90 years old. She was a daughter of Middleton Sweatt and Mrs. Carolina Patrick Sweatt, and a member of Boone Hill Methodist Church. Melwood Blanton Murray, 86, of Moncks Corner, died Sunday at her residence. The funeral will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL. Burial will be in Berkeley Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Murray was born April 9, 1920 in Lebanon, SC, a daughter of Samuel Mouzon Blanton and Zadie Cornelius Salisbury Blanton. She was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Joseph Edward Murray. Surviving are a daughter-Debbie M. Zink of Moncks Corner; son-Edward S. "Butch" Murray of Moncks Corner; brother-Henry M. Blanton of Lebanon; two sisters-Fannie B. Owens and Mary B. (Donald) Singletary both of Lebanon; five grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; caregiver-Mynda Poff. Diane Leta Cosner Murta, 48, of Moncks Corner, SC, a telephone operator for Wal Mart, died Aug. 23, 2006, at her residence. The memorial service was held 3 p.m. Aug. 27 in the Moncks Corner Seventh Day Adventist Church. Pastor Mario Munoz and Bonnie M. Connelly officiated. Mrs. Murta was born June 10, 1958, in Belleville, Ill., a daughter of Joseph L. Cosner and Joyce K. Horn Cosner. She was a member of the Moncks Corner Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mrs. Murta served on the Moncks Corner Mayors Committee for the Employment of People with Disabilities where she was awarded the Mayors Award in 1992 and 2002. In 1992, she was the keynote speaker for the ceremony. Surviving are her husband, Douglas E. Murta; her mother of Goose Creek; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael J. and Julie Varner of Moncks Corner; a brother Joseph L. Cosner, II of Goose Creek; dearest friend, Ron Rhames of Orangeburg; caregiver, Rebecca Brewer; and many friends.
