Oberthur/Oberthier/Oberdeer Families of York County PA

In searching for information on my ancestors Lewis Michael and his father Wendel in York County  I found that the Michael family and Ludwig and Philip Overdeer were witnesses for baptisms of each others children.  I thought there might be a connection in Germany.  When I found the abstract of the church records of Wallhalben in Pfalz I found the family of Philip Oberthier of Wallhalben, or Erlenmuhle with sons including George Ludwig  bpt. Jan 28 1742 and Johann Philipp bpt. July 26 1750.  In the actual church records I found the marriage of Ludwig Oberthier to Elisabetha daughter of Jacob Michel May 28, 1762. My Michael family used the name MICHEL in Germany.

Elisabetha was baptized Maria Elisabetha Michel Nov. 1, 1744.  She is the sister of Wendel Michel who is the Wendel Michael of York County.  Also Ludwig is a witness at the baptism of Johann Ludwig Michel on Jan. 31 1762.  Johann Ludwig Michel became Lewis Michael in Pennsylvania.  Margaret Elisabeth Michel wife of Wendel was the witness for the baptism of John (Johannes) Oberdier 26 Dec. 1774 in York County, parents Ludwig and Maria Elisabeth Oberdier.

I also found information on Jacob Oberdier who left a will in York County in 1775 naming children Eve, George, John, Margret and Sussanna.  There is an unsoursed item in the IGI giving the marriage of Johann Jacob Oberthuer to Anna Christina Eberhard 23 Feb. 1745 in Hambach, France.  I contacted Dave Francis an Eberhard researcher and he sent me the information he had.  Johann Jacob is listed as being from Klingenmuhle Kiebelberg, oberamt Kaiserslautern. (I couldn’t find Klingenmuhle on a map but Kaiserslautern is only about 20, miles from Wallhalben) he married in Waldhambach, which is in Northwest Alsace.  They had a son Georg Adam baptized Nov. 16, 1745.  This couple is probably the Jacob and Anna Christina of York County.
