Maps of Associated Family Origins and Stadler/Stettler Locations in the Rhine Valley

I was reluctant to display these working maps of mine because I have found no link between the Stadler/Stettler families in Europe and 18th Century immigrants in America.  Now there is a European home for one Group, see the Baden-Wuerttemberg map and Group 14 notes.

Assumptions:

I assume that the Stadler/Stettler immigrants were Protestant.  Part of the oath taken in Pennsylvania requires them not to be Catholic. There are many Catholic records of Stadler families in the IGI, which I did not include.

I only considered records before 1750.

There are some early Stadler/Stettler families in southern Baden-Wurttemberg near Stuttgart but I found no Associated Families in that area, so I did not map them.

See IGI Batch # C393267, M922341, M948461

Also in Gersbach near the border with Switzerland

See IGI Film # 2034393

Most of the origins of the Associated Families are from WorldConnect.

I have not checked the information and in most cases no sources is given.  I am, after all, doing a study of Statler/Stetler/Stotler names, not Wertz or Shoemaker.

There may very well be what I call the “Annette Effect” for origins.  A person finds their family name in a book by ANNETTE K. BURGERT and uses only that for evidence of their family origin, so origins cluster in areas covered by one of her books.

For those unfamiliar with ANNETTE K. BURGERT she has written over twenty excellent books tying 18th Century records in Europe with passenger lists and records in America.

My maps cover only parts of:

  1. Pfalz (The Palatine) which is part of the State of Bavaria, in the IGI it is listed as Pfalz, Bayern and on MapQuest it is Rhineland-Pfalz
  2. Baden-Wurttemberg (Wuerttemberg) and Hessen east of the Rhine.
  3. Alsace part of France, with a large population which emigrated from Switzerland and Germany
  4. Switzerland
