I believe this was the John
Statler in Washington County Maryland in 1772 -1782 probably born 1740 to 1750
He and wife Barbara sold a
lot in Elizabethtown (Hagerstown) MD to Martin Stake/Stack Nov 8, 1777,
recorded 1787
Took Oath of Allegiance in
1778 “John Statlen” next name “John Everhart Michel”

Baptisms Washington County

Century
Feb 9, 1772 Anneta Maria of Johannes Statler and Cath.
Barbara sponsors Joh. Eberhart
and Anna Maria (Reform Church of Hagerstown (Elizabethtown))
May 22, 1774 Henry son of
John Stattle/Stattler and Mary Barbara (Evangelical
Lutheran at Elizabethtown)
March 21, 1779 Johannes son
of Johannes Stadler and Catharina Barbara witness
Johannes Michel (Salem Reform)
Nov 10, 1782 Joshua Peter son
of Johannes Statler and Maria Barbara witnesses. Joh:
Eberhart Michel and Anna Maria. (Salem Reform)
Even though these baptisms
are from three different churches, the witness at three of these baptisms is
some variation of “Johann Eberhart Michel”. John Statler’s wife was probably Catharina Maria Barbara or Maria Catharina
Barbara, “Maria” and “Catharina” being “Saints Names”
and “Barbara” her “Civil Record” name.
In the sale of land to Martin
Stake/Stack her name is given as Barbara.
In the sale of land to John
Jr. in Virginia in 1820 wife’s name in given as Catharine, possibly this is a
second wife.
Johannes Stadler and Catharina sponsors of Johannes child of Peter and Catharina Briener 1772 (Reform
Church of Hagerstown (Elizabethtown))
I believe that Henry and
Mathias Stotler, who served in the War of 1812 from Belmont County Ohio, were
children of this John Stotler. DNA
results now indicate that Henry was connected to John Stotler of
Berkeley/Morgan County.
