Notes on Spelling: In the Church records the spelling Stettler or variation may mean
this is the original spelling of a preference of the minister.
In the 1786 land records of
Philip Uncafer/Unkerfere neighbor Abraham is spelled
both Stedler and Stadler
In the 1786 land records of
William George neighbor is Abraham Stutler
In the 1794 land record of
Abraham to John the name is spelled STATLER
The first tax lists spell the
name Stuttle or Stuttler, in 1782 and there after it
is STATLER
Notes on DNA results:
The participant from this
Group is 3 steps away from the Group 4 person and 2 steps away from the Group 2
person. Both the Group 2 founder Henry
Stetler and the Group 4 founder Abraham Stettler had sons name Abraham. We know that Group 4 Abraham Junior was a
minor when his father died about 1760.
It is very unlikely he is the Abraham of Loudoun County. Group 2 Henry of Montgomery County PA had a
son Abraham who appeared in a tax list in 1769 and not after that. More records of Montgomery County PA need to
be checked to see if Abraham, son of Henry might be the Abraham of Loudoun
County VA. It is also worth noting that
some Group 2 descendants are listed in records as Stuttler or Stutler.
