Joseph Ruppert was born in Baltimore City in 1849. Like his father, he earned his living as a cooper. By the late nineteenth century, there was little demand for the skills of a cooper. This signature is from an 1896 letter requesting that the city end water service to his cooperage. Ruppert became a life insurance agent. He died in Baltimore City in 1916.
