Kinfolks
by Evelyn Flood

This genealogy concerns the Peter and Louis Torix families and their collateral relatives

Elizabeth JONES was, I believe, the daughter of SOLOMON JONES and
ELIZABETH BURNHAM.
She would be sister to Benjamin, Thomas R and Lemuel R JONES plus
other JONES siblings.
These Jones men were born in St. Francois County, Missouri so it is
likely Elizabeth was born there too.
(See SOLOMON JONES Story in my 'Kinfolks Stories'.)
Per Benjamin, Thomas R and Lemuel R Jones' Civl War Pension records.
See "Goodspeeds Reminiscent History of the Ozark Region", page 337 re) Solomon JONES.

St. Francois County, Missouri is where Nathaniel FLOOD\FLUD married
Mary Polly JONES in l833.
Believe Mary Polly Jones Flood was daughter of David Jones, Senior
and sister to Simon Jones and David Jones,Junior of Carroll County,
Arkansas (later Newton County).
Simon Jones and Mary Polly Jones Flood were certainly related somehow
to the family of Solomon Jones.

(See the Simon Jones Story in my Kinfolks Stories)

Nathan and Mary Polly Jones Flood's first child Nancy Jane Flood Bray
Burdine was born in St. Francois County, Missouri in 1833.
Their next child and first son was named John"Kink"Flud, also born in
St. Francois County, Missouri.
Their second son was named DAVID FLOOD (probably named after Mary
Polly's father David Jones---following the old naming pattern)born in
White Township, Carroll County, Arkansas(now Newton County) ca 1837.

Elizabeth Jones first married GEORGE PETER TORIX
(Have seen the name listed as Torick,Torique, Fontue)...yes, Fontue
on 1880 Conway County, Arkansas Census....
how would one ever find them under the Fontue name?) in St. Francois County, Missouri ca 1835. See "Early Missouri Marriages" by Susan Ormesher.

George Peter TORIX children:
(1)MARGARET TORIX,born ca 1836 in Missouri (probably in
St.Francois County). She married SAMUEL GRINDER as his second wife, ca 1856.

1860 Searcy County, Arkansas Census, Tomahawk Township, Visit 382.

........Margaret....24....MO

........George.......3....AR
........Isabella...9/12...AR

Have Margaret's birthdate as 10 June 1830 (know she was born later).
Death date as 13 November 1906.
Samuel Grinder belonged to the "Peace Society" and was marched, along
with other members of this secret society to Little Rock. He did not
die during Civil War.
Samuel Grinder's death date is listed as 1 March 1870.

See Peace Society in the March l991, Vol 29 Issue of Arkansas Family
Historian, pages 13--29.
Also, check with Searcy County Ancestor Exchange for more related
articles.

(3)PETER TORIX born ca 1843 Polk County, Arkansas
He served in Co. C, First Arkansas Cavalry (Union) during the Civil
War. He married MARY ANN FLUD BREWER, widow of JESSE BREWER, on
17 March 1867 in Newton County, Arkansas.
Jesse Brewer died on 13 March 1862 in Newton County per Peter Torix's
Civil War Pension papers.
Peter Torix died 28 October l871, Duff, Searcy County,Arkansas. He is
buried in COPPERS BLUFF CEMETERY, Newton County,Arkansas.
Mary Ann Flud Brewer Torix drew Peter's Civil War Pension.
She died on 12 January l892 in Newton County, Arkansas at her
brother-in-law George Newberry's home.(Nancy Flud was married to
George Newberry). It is said she was buried barefoot because the
family did not have the money to buy her a pair of shoes. She is
buried by her husband in Coppers Bluff Cemetery, but no marker is
known to be there.
Have her Civil War Widow's Pension Record.
Mary Ann Flud was daughter of John L Flud and Maranda Gilmore.
John L Flud was brother to Nathan Flood and James Flud.
Mary Ann Flud had married JESSE BREWER previously in l857 in Newton
County, Arkansas.
Jessey Brewer was the first postmaster of Mt. Judea, Arkansas.
Jessey died 13 March l862 in Newton County, Arkansas.

The JESSE BREWER (Bruer) children were: i:John H Brewer born l858 and
ii:Nancy C Brewer born 1862.
(no further information on these children)

Since Peter Torix died in 1871 in Searcy County, Arkansas, I presume the Brewer children may have lived there also
Does anyone have any information to add to this Brewer family??

Cynthia Elizabeth Clemmons.
William's parents are buried in McDaniel Cemetery, Dongola, Searcy
County, Arkansas.
Jacob M McDaniel's father William F McDaniel was also a member of
the Peace Society and was marched along with other men to Little
Rock,Arkansas in l86l.
He enlisted in Co. I, l8th Arkansas Infantry(Confederate).

When Cheryl wrote me she said a relative had been in the "Chain Gang"
but then I explained to Cheryl about the Peace Society during the
Civil War Time. She was probably thinking it was a prison gang.
