THOMAS JEFFERSON FAUGHT STORY

Kinfolks
by Evelyn Flood

Understand that recently the families of Thomas J Faught gathered
in his memory at the Deer Cemetery in Newton County, Arkansas.
Do hope that Thomas has a Civil War Tombstone which he is entitled to.
In memory of Thomas J Faught Family, I would like to send this
story as I know it.

Thomas Jefferson Faught was born 28 December 1837 in Lawrence
County,Tennessee to Levi Faught and Nancy Cook Reddell Faught.

Nancy had been previously married to WILLIAM REDDELL and had several
children by Reddell.
They were divorced 28 August 1832 in Lawrence County Tennessee.
Have a list of the Reddell children which I believe is in the
James Anderson Reddell Story "Waiting At The River"
in my Kinfolks Stories
I do not know the marriage date of Levi Faught
and Nancy Cook Reddell.

Levi Faught served on the Grand Jury in Lawrence County,Tennessee in
1836, per Lawrence County records.

The children of Levi and Nancy Cook Reddell Faught were:
(1) MARTIN Z FAUGHT, born 1832,
(2) NANCY J FAUGHT, born 1833,
(3) MARTHA M FAUGHT,born 1835,
(4) THOMAS JEFFERSON FAUGHT, born 1837 Lawrence County, Tennessee
(5) LOUISA FAUGHT,(unknown birthdate)
(6) WILLIAM C FAUGHT, born 1839
(7) MARY ELIZABETH FAUGHT,born 1846.

Levi and Nancy moved to Carroll County,Arkansas before 1840. The
area werein they settled later became Newton County. They were on
the 1840 Carroll County, Arkansas census.

In Nancy's bible was listed Charlton Reddell as being born
28 April 1830 in Lawrence County,Tennessee.
Charlton was with the family on the 1840 Arkansas census,
Nancy's child by William Reddell.

Charlton Reddell married ELIZABETH SON in 1849 in Washington
County,Arkansas and he died in 1873 at High Point,Missouri.

The 1850 Searcy County, Arkansas census shows Nancy Fought, age 46,
born Kentucky, living with children: Thomas age 13; William, age 12
and Mary E Faught age 4.

On the 1860 Searcy County census, in Tomahawk Township, the Thomas
Jefferson Faught family is living at visit 435:
Thomas age 22 and Nancy age 22.
She is NANCY MANES, daughter of Pleasant Manes and Mary Lucinda
Gibbs.
The children living with them on the census were:
John age 3; George age 1 and Bruce Faught, age l/12.

There was an organization in Searcy County, Arkansas in this time
period called the "Peace Society" wherein members were thought to be
disloyal to the Confederacy (Arkansas being a Confederate State at
this time). Governor Rector had these members "rounded up" and
marched in chains to Little Rock and were told to enlist in the
Confederate Army "or else". On this list was
(6)WILLIAM C FAUGHT, conscripted into Co. G, 27th Arkansas Infantry
(Confederate) on 19 June 1862 and died 3 November 1862 Searcy County,
Arkansas.
William is found in the Arkansas Confederate Soldiers Index.

Also on this list was Thomas Faught who was conscripted into
Co.G, 27th Arkansas Infantry (Confederate) on 28 June 1862.
