Otis and his brother Thomas Redmond were close, and both
brothers and their families moved from Missouri and/or
Texas to New Mexico.During the Great Depression both
families moved to Hatch,Dona Ana,New Mexico.Both brothers
bought property in Hatch.
Thomas later moved his family to Separ,Hildago,New Mexico,
where he owned a gas station, and his wife Effie ran the
post office.Otis and his family later moved to Radium
Springs,Dona Ana,New Mexico,then on to Las Cruces,Dona Ana,
New Mexico.
Otis and Thomas were a pair of yarn spinners and horse
traders.They both could have a stern demeaner, but loved
nothing better than a good prank.

Opal Tate was the daughter of Otis Franklin Smith and
Lula Etta Smith nee Ethridge. She married PAUL TATE.
Opal and Paul had two Children, Geraldine and Gene Tate.
Opal and Paul Tate lived both in Hatch and Las Cruces,
New Mexico before moving to Clovis, New Mexico. Paul Tate
was the brother of Vivian Brawley nee Tate.

Onnie married RUBY G WILLIAMS(1925-1993)

Onnie Smith's parents were Otis Franklin Smith and
Lula Etta Smith nee Ethridge. Onnie was born with cross
eyes. As a young boy he went to school in Alamogordo,
New Mexico at the school for the blind. Doctors and the
school help improve his eye sight, but it was something he
struggled with all his life. His handicap didn't slow him
down. He had an upbeat and pleasant personality, which
helped him succeed in his family owned businesses.
Onnie's family moved to New Mexico from Missouri and Texas
and settled in Dona Ana County in the Hatch and Las Cruces
areas. Onnie Smith married RUBY G WILLIAMs on 29 May 1942.
They raised their family in Las Cruces, New Mexico where
they owned a lumber yard. They later moved to Hatch where
they farmed/ranched and had a small lumber yard.
