JOHN? and REBECCA PEOPLES FARMER Families

Kinfolks
by Evelyn Flood

There were about four different FARMER families living in the
Boone, Johnson and Newton Counties, Arkansas areas.
One FARMER family was the JOHN? and REBECCA PEOPLES FARMER family

Another family was AQUILLA and MARY NAIL FARMER(see their separate story)
Another Farmer family was WILLIAM and MARY ELIZABETH VILLINES FARMER
See "FARMER Families of Johnson and Newton County, Arkansas Story"

One other FARMER family was JAMES "BIRD"and NANCY JANE CURNUTT FARMER

REBECCA PEOPLES FARMER.
Rebecca Peoples is listed on the 1850 Johnson County, Arkansas
(Spadra Township) census, age 15, born Tennessee, living with parents
SMITH and SARAH PEOPLES.

I believe Rebecca PEOPLES husband was JOHN FARMER who died in
Oct 1859 in Newton County (per 1860 Arkansas Mortality Schedule).
Page 36 of 1860 Arkansas Mortality Schedule : John Farmer, age 44,
born Tennessee, died October 1859 of pneumonia in Newton County,
Arkansas.
Also per 1860 Arkansas Mortality Schedule,
Pernina Farmer, age 13, died July 1859 in Newton County, Arkansas.
Do not know which Farmer family Pernina belonged to.

Some people believe Rebecca Peoples Farmer to be William Farmer.
I am not absolutely sure of her husband's first name, but due to not
finding John FARMER after 1860, and the listing on the 1860 Arkansas
Mortality Schedule,
I tend to believe his first name was John.

In checking the Johnson County, Arkansas early 1850 marriages, I can
find no record of any marriage between Rebecca Peoples and a male
FARMER.
There were several Farmer families living in Johnson and Newton
Counties,Arkansas in 1850 and 1860 and later.
See their separate stories elsewhere.
I do believe Rebecca's husband was from the Johnson County FARMERS.
I believe this due to the fact Rebecca Peoples lived in Johnson
County in 1850 and there were several Farmer families in that area.
Her husband could very well be a son of Aquilla Farmer who was an
early resident of Johnson County, Arkansas

Rebecca PEOPLES FARMER is found on the 1860 Newton County,Arkansas
census in Boston Township, visit #531 with children:
Letha( Celetha) Farmer age 8;
Joseph C Farmer age 6,
Thomas Farmer age 4, and
Matilda Farmer age 10/12.

Also living in Newton County, Arkansas on the 1860 census near
Rebecca Peoples Farmer, was a WILLIAM B FARMER, born 1839 in
Johnson County, Arkansas.
His wife was EMELINE, born 1840 in Missouri.
This William B Farmer served in Co. A, First Arkansas Cavalry (Union)
during the Civil War. William's birthplace of Johnson County, is
listed in the Arkansas Union Soldiers Index.
William enlisted on 6 November 1863 at Fayetteville, Arkansas.
He is not in the Civil War Union Pension index.

REBECCA PEOPLES FARMER is on the 1870 Newton County, Arkansas Census
in White Township. Daughter Letha Farmer was living with her.
A Mary CLARK, age 15 born Tennessee, was living with the family.

Did not find REBECCA PEOPLES FARMER in 1880 nor 1900 on the census
records.

REBECCA PEOPLES FARMER was on the 1910 Newton County, Arkansas census
in White Township. She was the mother of six children with six living
at the time of the census. She was living with the Samuel C Pierce
family (her son-in-law)
Who was the sixth FARMER child???
Someone said she had a daughter SALLY FARMER, who was a twin to
MARGARET FARMER, but I HAVE NOT found record of either Sally or
Margaret Farmer on a census.

JOHN? and Rebecca PEOPLES FARMER's children I have record of were:

(1)LETHA (Celetha?) FARMER who married CALVIN MAYBERRY on 4 June 1871
in Newton County,Arkansas. Letha is found on the 1870 Newton County
census as 17 years, attending school living with mother Rebecca and
siblings in White Township,visit No.206.

On the 1880 Newton County, Arkansas Census in White Township,
Mabery, Calvin, head...35...TN...Farmer...VA,TN
........Letha...Wife...27..born...MO...Keeping house...TN, TN
........Joseph..Son.....4...AR,TN,MO
........Alis....Dau.....1...AR,TN,MO
Has anyone found this family later than 1880??
