He was in Co. K, First Arkansas Cavalry (Union) during Civil War.
He died at home on l4 December l864 of congestive chills which
"incurred at Clipper Mills, Carroll County, Arkansas", so apparently
was at home on leave.
It is unknown where he is buried, but he is entitled to a military
marker if someone would apply. It does not have to be placed on his
grave, but I understand can be placed in any cemetery in his memory.
His mother Mary"Polly" Burdine Pierce applied for his pension in
l890 and so we know she was alive at that time. She also homesteaded
80 acres in Section l5, Township l5 North, Range 20 West in l889 and
proof of Homestead was filed in l894.
The exact date and place of burial for Mary Burdine Pierce is unknown
by me at this time.
