Jeremiah "Long Jerry" Smith died ca 1911 and is also buried in the
Brooken Cemetery.

Mary Jane was the daughter of James T. Robinson (1843-1909)and Elizabeth Emaline Curtis.

John Pruitt, age 17, married Melinda Ellen Vanderpool,age 18(really
only 16) on 5 Oct 1886 in Newton County BUT this marriage was not
recorded until 25 May 1895 (Book E-217)Newton County Marriages.
They were married by D. Stegall, County Judge.
I believe John Pruitt's parents were Benjamin Pruitt and Martha
Thompson Wright Pruitt and family is on the 1880 Newton County,
Arkansas census.
BUT,John T Pruitt could also be the son of John D Pruitt(1830-1905)
and Vernetta Jane (mnu)Pruitt (1836-1927) who are also buried in
Pruitt Cemetery.
Because these two John Pruitts are close to the same age, it is
hard to tell the correct John.
Does anyone know for sure? What was Vernetta Jane (mnu) Pruitt's
maiden name??

There was another J.T. Pruitt, age 20, who had married Mary Collins
age 18(both of Capark in Newton County) on 12Aug1888 in Newton
County, Arkansas(pg99).
The "Newton County, Arkansas Cemetery Book"by Haddock,
lists this couple as being buried in Pruitt Cemetery and
believe this is an error in the Cemetery Book.

This Gilbert Taylor Smith died 12Aug1916 in Haskell County,Oklahoma
and is buried in Brooken Cemetery.
Mary Jane Robinson Smith died 25Dec1910, Brooken Cemetery, Haskell, Oklahoma.
Tuberculosis was a pretty common sickness back then and have often
wondered if Gilbert's family died of TB. So many families I have
researched have lost loved ones to Tuberculosis.

Cemetery, Newton County, Arkansas as OLA MAHAN.

After the Smith parents died, John and Melinda Ellen Vanderpool Pruitt returned to Newton County with the grandchildren.
