have birth to him prematurely due to mother Nancy Jane being
scared by a pet bear.
Per affidavit of Gilbert T Smith in Alfred Smith's Pension Record
That said William R Smith was an "idiot",suppose to be a
"deformative caused by his mother gitting scared before he was born
by a bear ketched to be raised as a pet" and further states that the
reason he can fix the date of their marriage is they were married
about three weeks before I was married and my family records shows
that I was married about 8th day of March A.D. 1855"
signed Gilbert T. Smith (his mark)

MORGAN PIERCE
Troy Free Press (Troy, Lincoln Co.MO)Fri.,20 Mar.1885
MR. MORGAN PIERCE died last Friday of chronic Bright's disease,
caused by taking half a teacupful of turpentine about two years ago.
The immediate cause of death was uremic coma, in which state he gave
up the ghost, quietly, resistlessly and without knowing it, and had
reached the yonder shore of Jordan and the Gates Ajar ere he was
aware that the undulations of the sable stream he had entered several
hours before had heralded his approach and that the judgement
bar was at hand.
...Preston Troy Free Press (Lincoln Co.,MO) Fri., 27 March 1885
MR. MORGAN PIERCE of Bobb's Creek, aged about 65 years, died on the
13th inst.,and his remains were interred at the old Whitledge place
