AARON FRANKLIN BRASSFIELD STORY
AARON FRANKLIN BRASSFIELD STORY

This is the story of Aaron Franklin Brassfield as I know it.
His birth and death dates are from his Civil War Pension (Union)
Application which I sent for in 1989.
Records show he was born 13 April 1848 at Mt. Judea, Newton County, Arkansas.
His father was ABNER BRASSFIELD born 1808 in Tennessee.
His mother was LUCINDA (Cindarella)GEE born 1812 in Tennessee.
They married: 17 April 1828 in Chariton County,Missouri per
"Early Missouri Marriages" by Susan Ormesher.

Aaron married (1)ELIZIE JANE STANDRIDGE ca 1871 in unknown place.
Elizie Jane's father was Alex Standridge (son of Martin Standridge
and Catherine Rose Meeks).
I believe Elizie Jane's mother was ELIZA ANN (MNU)
born 1821 in Kentucky, who could have been a MEEK.

Elizie Jane Standridge Brassfield died in 1884 and is buried
in Richland Cemetery,Newton County,Arkansas.
,p> Aaron and Elizie Jane Brassfield's known children were:

(1) SALLY BRASSFIELD born 1873,probably Searcy County, Arkansas.
She married JOHN KELSE HALLUM in 1892 in Newton County, Arkansas.
John Kelse Hallum was son of Clinton Monroe Hallum and
Salina Caroline Tennison.
Sally died 1933 with burial in Haskell, Oklahoma Cemetery,
(Muskogee County)Oklahoma.
There is a possibility Sally Brassfield may not be the
daughter of this family.
But, I could not find her with any other family.
Aaron was so hard to find on any census record.

(2)MARY ELIZABETH BRASSFIELD born 1877 in Arkansas
She married DAVID FREEMAN on 15 April 1894 in Newton County, Arkansas.

(3)LUCINDA B BRASSFIELD born 14 March 1878 in Searcy County, Arkansas.
She married CHARLES KENDRELL HOLT on 3 January 1894 in Newton County, Arkansas.
(There was more than one Charles K Holt).

Arrena "Rena"Brassfield Hampton married:
(2) MARION L "Doc" DAVIS on 28 Oct 1917 Johnson Co.,Arkansas(V-469).
His father was Benton Davis; His Mother was Mary Ann Blackwood.
Arrena and Marion Davis had one known son:
Roy Benton Davis born 25 Apr 1919,who served as Pvt U S Army WWll
Roy died 5 July 1981 with burial in Coleman Cemetery,
Pope County,Arkansas.
There may be other Davis children in this family.

Arrena"Irene" Brassfield Hampton Davis died 27 March 1960
and is buried in Coleman Cemetery,Pope County, Arkansas.

There were probably more Brassfield children.

Aaron Franklin Brassfield moved around a lot as I could not seem
to locate him with his daughters except on 1880 Marion County,
Arkansas census in Tomahawk Township, page 80C.
This census showed Franklin Brassfield, age 25, born Arkansas.
Liza (wife) age 23, born Arkansas
Lucinda age 3, born Arkansas.
Mary, age 1, born Arkansas.

Aaron claimed he joined the Second Arkansas Infantry(Union) during
the Civil War and enlisted Nov. 1864 at Fayetteville,Arkansas and
was discharged May 1865 at Waldron, Arkansas.
His claim was rejected as the War Department could not find a
record of him joining the Service.

Aaron Franklin Brassfield married (2) MARY A. COOK, born June 1864.
Married 20 Nov 1888, Boone County,Arkansas.

Aaron Franklin Brassfield's request for pension

No known children from this marriage.

Aaron Franklin Brassfield died 27 Feb 1933 in Johnson County,
Arkansas and is buried in Richland Cemetery, Newton County,Arkansas

In 1929 Aaron Franklin Brassfield was living in Lamar,
Johnson County,Arkansas
He claims since his discharge from the Civil War Service he lived
at Mt.Judea and Chancel,Arkansas.
He did not file for a Civil War Pension until 1929 and he stated
that his wife Mary Ann Brassfield was living
(Mary Ann Cook Brassfield).
No indication of where his second wife died or is buried.

On "Declaration of Pension" one question states:
That a member of his family served in the Army,Navy,Marine Corps or
Coast Guard of the United states between April 6, 1917 and
July 2, 1921, or at any time during said period (if any members of
claimant's family were in the military or naval services during
the period mentioned, state the full name under which each member
served, etc. and he names JAMES BRASSFIELD.
It is not known if James Brassfield was a son or nephew.
Aaron's brother and sons lived in Searcy County, Arkansas.

The following has been handed down, but I found the following information to NOT BE true.
Most folks believe that his name was "Earn" Brassfield and he
married Mary Jane Standridge and that Earn's father was
Thomas Brassfield. ("Earn" sounds like Aaron).
Martha Jane's father was General Alec Standridge.
Read again, and you will find it is not so.
