Kansas Wolf Hunt

This was a wolf hunt in Kansas we believe in the 1920's.
Look at the caps and hats the men were wearing and the guns
Apparently this was before the wolf hunt, but believe they do
have one dead wolf in front near the dog.

Does anyone recognize this picture?

Picture sent to me by Margery Wheeler

The following information was sent to me by Margery regarding the photo

The picture is not dated, but it is included on a page with two
articles that are dated 1927.

The caption under the picture reads:
'A HUNTING WE WILL GO' --The men of the Battle Hill area turned out
en masse for a "wolf" hunt years ago. The picture belonged to the
late Charles Nirider, Roxbury, [Kansas] and was loaned to
The Sentinel
by George Schoming, Roxbury.
I do not know these men. But apparently my great grandfather and/or
my grandfather Hart did. I would assume my family had members in
the hunting party. Or they just liked the picture???
On the same page is an article about my grandfather John Hart.
That is why I copied the page of pictures at the Museum in Lindsburg,
Kansas. I was there doing research on the Hart family.

BROUGHT 23 SCALPS.
[June 19, no year. Some just wrote in pen] The other two articles
are dated as 1927 as I mentioned above.
John Hart of Battle Hill this morning brought in a batch of
wolf scalps. He had in all twenty-three scalps and it is the largest
number that has been brought in at one time for a number of years.
The scalps were from half-grown and small animals and each brought the owner one dollar apeice.
The prairie wolves are said to be quite abundant in the big
pastures. Here they are not molested and they thrive. Mr. Hart
stated that they subsisted largely on chickens and it is for the
farmers of the community to protect themselves against these thieves.
The animals were dug out from among the rocks. Eighteeen were
captured yesterday and the balance some days before. They are more
numerous there now than they have been in years.

I believe the Battle Hill township was located in McPherson County,
just on the Marion County line, by Dole's Park.
