Immigration: Likely in 1630-32, possibly in Winthrop's Fleet, certainly by 1632. He probably migrated with first wife and all the children, except Sarah. Sarah, according to Savage, came in 1635, with her husband, Thomas Ewer. Thomas and Sarah's marriage is recorded in Bermondsey on Jan 13, 1623/4. The four younger children would have been ages 6-18 in 1630.
Occupation: ??
First record in America: The first record I see is dated December 6, 1632, when he and his wife were admitted to the church of Charlestown. (His name appears in a list of admitted inhabitants of the Charlestown in 1630, also reported in TGMB, but this list is believed by at least one historian to have been written years later, and may not be accurate. (See The Learned Family, p 6)
Spouses:
2) Jane (___). Birthdate unknown, married sometime between
1632-1645. Not much is known about her. An inventory of her estate was
taken in March, 1660/1, following her death on January 24, 1660/1. She
outlived William French by 15 years.
The Anne Hutchinson Affair - William
Learned, like our ancestor Ezekiel Richardson, sided with Anne Hutchinson
during her trial, but was forced to renounce his support, like Ezekiel
Richardson did, or face reprisals, including being stripped of his gun.

Spelling variations: As the years have passed, various branches may have taken on different spellings, including: Learned, Larned, Lerned, Learnerd. (Leonard is not found as a variation of Learned, as the pronounciation seems to have historically been "Larned".)
One daughter, Sarah, the oldest, married Thomas Ewer and then Thomas Lathrop. Her descendants on the Lathrop side are fully explored in various works on John Lathrop.
One daughter, Elizabeth, is shown as married to John Hall of Charlestown.
Mary died young and nothing further is known about Bethia or Abigail.
Thus, the main branches from the second generation will have the
names: Learned, Lathrop, and Hall.
