The following is from Barry McIVOR by email (December 2003):
Francis McIvor was born in Edinburgh in 1822, at the age of 13 he was convicted for the second time for stealing, he stole a coat. On the 25/5/1835 he was sentenced to 7 years at Van Diemans Land, he arrived 20/8/1836. I believe he served his time at Richmond, Norfolk Plains at Launceston. He did go to Melbourne on the “City of Melbourne” 2/12/1851. Dad told me they named McIvor township, McIvor goldfield & McIvor Highway after him

I can't remember when or where, but I once read a copy of Francis conviction taken from an Edinburgh paper.

I know dad took a lot of secrets about the family with him. Dad said when they moved from N.Z. to Tassy in 1913 they lived at Lefroy, Beaconsfield, Warrath, Burnie & the Magnet, hope I spelt them correctly. Dad said that old Tassy, thats what they always called Arthur Cyrus, was a wood contractor for the mills, then about 1920 they were off again to N.Z. I believe Francis & Margaret had 11 chi! ldren, there was a Helen too I thought but don't quote me, also there were a couple of kids adopted by either F.& M. or Martha, this part I heard long ago so I am not sure, the adopted were a Lilia & a Fred. They were all raised on the family property "Glen Garry" at Bell Bay, they actually walked off the property & left it to the tenants.

Dad told me that Francis was a great gambler and at one time or another he owned a paddlewheeler and different hotels he had won, and also lost.
