Stephen left Tasmania on the “Shamrock” on the 18 June 1845, and together with his brother, John took a train of horses to Bombala, Snowy Mountains, N. S. W. Stephen settled in Bombala and married Elizabeth Godfrey on the 27 Jan 1854. They had thirteen children. Stephen died on the 10 Nov 1889 and his wife 31 year later on 5 Oct 1920 aged 87 years. They are buried in the Roman Catholic section of the Bombala cemetery. Today his descendants still live in the Bombala area.

Gwen Hjort, a grand-daughter of Solomon, visited the ruins of the original homestead on the banks of “Kerrison’s Creek”, at Bombala and found a churchyard full of Stephen’s descendants.
