Welcome to Rhode Island Biographies Project...

             This site provides a single entry point for all Rhode Island
          Biographies which are submitted to this project or entered by           volunteers using any printed source with copyright  prior to 1922.
           It is critical in working the project to respect copyright laws.

                          I am Colleen L. Gwynn--recent volunteer state
                          coordinator for Rhode Island Biographies
                          Project.   My Grandfather Jefferson Albert Slade's
                          5th great-grandparents, Samuel Sherman and
                          Martha Tripp were very early Rhode Islanders.
                          They are my personal link to this state and the
                          reason for my decision to volunteer. Creating
                          the hosting site for the Rhode Island Biographies
                          Project reflects my gratitude for their persons                           and the life that is mine through each of them.

            As you explore this site, you will see Rhode Island needs volunteer
           county coordinators.  If you can create and maintain a web page,
           please consider adopting a county!

            If you feel a desire to assist in the preservation of Rhode Island
            Biographies and wish to become linked to the project,

                          US Biographies becomes the single entry point for all state
                    projects. A visit to US Biographies takes you to all the state
                    links as well as the names of state coordinators linked to their                     individual email addresses.

                    If you are interested in becoming a volunteer state coordinator
                    for any state needing to be adopted, the US Biographies site                     provides opportunity to investigate and become aware of the                     process.

History of US Biographies

The project was organized in May 1997 by Jeff Murphy.

                    Using the established KY Biographies Project as a model--State Coordinators were
                   sought to set up their own state project. They were offered the system design and
                   tools created for the KY project, but were free to set up their project in any way
                   they chose.

                                                                   Remembering Jeff Murphy...
                   I would like to acknowledge all the time and effort he put into getting this project started.
                   His presence is missed but thanks to him many people will be able to continue their family
                   search over the internet at no cost. Thank you! Jeff Murphy 1947 - 2001
