17. Benjamin3 Standerfer (Archibald4) was born in Illinois abt 1834.(2)He married twice. He married Jane Moon in Piatt Co., Illinois, May 13, 1856. Jane was born in Illinois ABT 1841. Jane(3) was the daughter of John Moon and Catherine Ferry. He married Martha (Patsy) Fulton in Douglas Co., Illinois, May 19, 1867.
He was tried in criminal court in Monticello, Piatt, Illinois, USA, Sept. 4, 1864.(4) A complaint was sworn out the 8th day October 1863 by Adam Shonkwiler detailing that Benjamin Standerfer and Thomas J. Babb had stolen $11 from him in US Treasurey notes (two fives and a one). Thomas J. Babb was released, and Benjamin F. Standerfer was bound over for trial. Job Standerfer, Henry Standerfer and Jeremiah Standerfer put up bail money for Benjamin (total sum of $500). However, in March, 1864 when Benjamin was supposed to appear he was no where to be found. on July 25, the Governor of Illinois issued a request to the Governor of Iowa for the arrest of Benjamin Standerfer. At a trial on the 4th Sept. 1864, Benjamin Standerfer pled guilty, thus there is no testimony in the file from the witnesses for the prosecution: Adam Shonkwiler James Ball Wesley Barrett John Bogard James Smitzer Dr. Marshall Benjamin was sentenced to one year in the state penitentiary, with the first five days to be in solitary confinement.
Benjamin was divorced from Martha (Patsy) Fulton in Moultrie, Illinois, May 14, 1870.
Benjamin Standerfer and Jane Moon had the following children:
20 iii.Telitha Standerfer was born in Sullivan, Moultrie, Illinois August 28, 1857. Telitha died November 29, 1919 Wayne, IL, at 62 years of age. She married twice. She married Isaac S. Harris in Sullivan, Moultrie, Illinois, January 23, 1873. She married John Michael Harris Wayne, IL, December 22, 1879. John is the son of Harris.
