Some Internet Resources

I have created a beginner's list of Commonly Used Abbreviations, including those for most European countries, for the United States and for Canadian provinces. It will help you to prepare your genealogical data in a form familiar to many other researchers.

Here are two locations where you are automatically given the county name when you specify a city and state. Having a complete location (state, county, city) is often useful in knowing where to go to request documents, for example.

Cyndi's List Internet Stuff You Need to Know contains links to resources for each of the following categories:

Computer Viruses

E-mail Chain-Letters, Folklore, Hoaxes, Misunderstandings & Scams
Internet & Computer Terminology

Y2K ~ Year 2000

Cyndi's List is a must for beginning on-line genealogy researchers. It contains so many links to good resources that it can be a bit overwhelming at first, but it is almost universally considered the best single source.

Many people are interested in adding "background music" to their web pages. Here are two locations where you can get music. It's not free but very reasonable. I think it's $5 for 20 tunes. There's a form to fill out then they mail you your selections on a floppy disk or a CD ROM if you prefer. Then you can load what you want on your site.

filecity.com has everything from rock and roll to classical including religious and holidays.
