Albert Wright Updegraff

M, (12 February 1848 - 30 January 1886)
     Albert Wright Updegraff was born on 12 February 1848 at Shelby County, Indiana.1 He was the son of Joseph Updegraff and Eliza Jane Miller. Albert Wright Updegraff married, at age 32, Sara Marcena Zumwalt, daughter of Christopher Peter Zumwalt and Irene Goodrich, on Sunday, 23 May 1880 at Perrydale, Polk County, Oregon.1 Albert Wright Updegraff died on 30 January 1886 at age 37 years, 11 months and 18 days.1 He was buried in the Oddfellows Cemetery, located in The Dalles, Wasco County, Oregon.1
     He and his sister Angeline traveled to Oregon in 1879 to visit an old friend, Margaret (Linville) Clark, who lived in the old Murray/Wallace home near the C. P. Zumwalt farm, Polk County, Oregon. This is where Albert met and married Sarah at the home of her parents in Perrydale, Oregon. Their first home was in the old Murray/Wallace home as the Clarks had by then moved on. In the fall of 1880 they went via Portland and steamer, up the Columbia to The Dalles and on to a ranch in Wasco County, Oregon where they invested in sheep, the sheep died during an extremely severe winter of 1881 - 82, they then returned to The Dalles, Polk County, Oregon.
