Jessie Magdalena Balinger was born on 30 July 1874 at Shelby County, Ohio.1,2 She was the daughter of Reuben Balinger and Elizabeth Zimmerman.2 Jessie Magdalena Balinger first married, at age 20, Robert M. Briggs, age 30 on Wednesday, 17 October 1894 at Shelby County, Ohio.2 Jessie Magdalena Balinger married a second time David Swob, son of John Swob and Cass [—?—], in 1914.2 Jessie Magdalena Balinger and Robert M. Briggs have also been reported to have been married 17 October 1895. Jessie Magdalena Balinger died on 26 September 1971 at Piqua Memorial Medical Center, Piqua, Miami County, Ohio, at age 97 years, 1 month and 27 days.1,2 She was buried on 29 September 1971 in the Brookside Cemetery, located in Hardin, Shelby County, Ohio.2
She appeared on the census of 11 June 1880 in the household of Reuben Balinger and Elizabeth Zimmerman at Newberry Township, Miami County, Ohio. As of between 1895 and 1910, Jessie Magdalena Balinger also went by the name of Maggie. She and Robert M. Briggs appeared on the census of 19 June 1900 at Turtle Creek Township, Shelby County, Ohio. She was widowed at age 33 by the death of Robert on 8 June 1908.2 Jessie Magdalena Balinger appeared on the census of 3 May 1910 at Turtle Creek Township, Shelby County, Ohio. As of 1920, Jessie Magdalena Balinger was also known as Jessie M. She and David Swob appeared on the census of 21 January 1920 at Cynthian Township, Shelby County, Ohio. Jessie Magdalena Balinger and David Swob appeared on the census of 8 April 1930 at Cynthian Township, Shelby County, Ohio. For the second time she was widowed at age 73 by the death of David on 10 March 1948.2 Her obituary was published on 27 September 1971 in the The Piqua Daily Call, printed in Piqua, Miami County, Ohio. Her obituary stated:
Mrs. Jessie M. Swob, 97, died Sunday at 6 a.m. in Piqua Memorial Hospital. She had been residing with her daughter, Mrs. Leroy Penrod, 1016 Virginia. She had previously resided at the Warren Nursing Home.
Born July 30, 1874, in Miami County, she was the daughter of the late Rhueben and Eliza Zimmerman Ballinger.
She was married Oct. 17m 1894, to Robert Briggs who died in 1908. She was then married to David Swob in 1914. He died in 1948.
Surviving her are three children, Mrs. Penrod (Agnes), Piqua; Mrs. Iva Richards, Sidney; Mrs. Leonard Moyer (Loa), Houston; and a step-son, Clifford Swob, Houston. She had 16 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 19 great-great grandchildren. Five brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
The Rev. Wesley Schaeffer will conduct funeral services Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Cromes and Sons Funeral Home, Sidney. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Hardin.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wedneday until the hour of services.2
