Johann George Kehrer

M, (1784 - 1848)
Johann George Kehrer was born in 1784. He married Anna Gutbrod circa 1807. Johann George Kehrer died in 1848 at age 64 years.
About 2,000 years ago the German people were not united but were living as many separate tribes. One of these tribes was names "Cheruskers." A very famous chief of the Cheruskers was named Arminius. In a very important battle, Arminius defeated the Romans who occupied German area and reconquered it and drove them to the Rhine River.

Later on about 259 A.D., the Cheruskers moved southward to conquer Italy. In Switzerland near the former towns of Sextia and Vercella, the Cheruskers were defeated by a Roman Army whose generals were Marius and Sulla. Most of the Cheruskers were killed and only a small number could flee into the Swiss mountains. Four or five hundred years later, their descendants returned to Germany. First they were boatsmen and sailors on the Donau (Danube) River, and later on they settled in the southern area of Germany. There, they were called Cherer, then Kerer and finally, Kehrer. He emigrated in 1832 from Steinach, Oberamt Waiblingen, Neckarkreis, Württemberg. Michael Stabler testified to the accuracy of the English translation of the original German will.
