Joseph Kiess1

     Joseph Kiess was born on 11 February 1843 at Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.2,3 He was the son of John Kiess and Mary Marquardt.1 Joseph Kiess married, at age 24, Eva Maria Wurster, age 22, daughter of Christian Wurster and Eva Rosina Leix, on Thursday, 6 February 1868.1 Joseph Kiess died on 9 June 1913 at Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 70 years, 3 months and 29 days. He was buried in the Woodward Township Cemetery, located in Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
     He the eldest son of John and Mary Keiss, was born upon the homestead in Anthony township, Lycoming County, February 11, 1843. He lived at home until 1869 and then purchased a farm in Watson township, where he spent two years. At the end of that period he purchased his present home of 106 acres, situated in Woodward township, upon which he has since resided. He was married in 1868 to Mary, daughter of Christian Wurster, and is the father of three children: David, Reuben, and Watson. Mr. Keiss is a Democrat. His wife is a member of St. John's Evangelical church.1
