Grace Mildred Hafer1,2,3

     Grace Mildred Hafer was born on 30 January 1913 at Newberry, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.4,1 She was the daughter of Walter Henry Hafer and Margaret Elizabeth Roller.5 Grace Mildred Hafer married, at age 21, James Lloyd Sholder, age 21, son of Frederick Sholder and Matilda Helen Miller, on Saturday, 23 June 1934 at Evangelical United Brethren Church, Newberry, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, by the Reverend Benjamin Griffin Hoffman.2,3 Grace Mildred Hafer died on 20 November 1965 at Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 52 years, 9 months and 21 days. She died of cancer.2,1,4 She was buried on 24 November 1965 in the Buchanan Baptist Church Cemetery, located in Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The funeral service was officiated by Reverend William M. Birdsall.1,2,4
     Grace Mildred Hafer appears in a 25th wedding anniversary portrait in 1959. The anniversary announcement for Grace Mildred Hafer and James Lloyd Sholder was published sometime in June 1964 in the local paper, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. This announcement stated:

     Mr. and Mrs. James L. Sholder, Williamsport R.D. 2, will observe their 30th wedding anniversary Tuesday June 23.

     They were married in the Newberry Evangelical United Brethren Church by the Rev. B. G. Hoffman. Mrs. Sholder is the former Grace M. Hafer.

     The Sholder's are the parents of a daughter, Mrs. Richard Robinson, Williamsport R.D. 2, and a son Leonard, Pleasant Gap. There are two grandchildren.

     Mr. and Mrs. Sholder are members of the Bethel United Presbyterian Church, Bottle Run.

     Mr. Sholder is employed by the Pennsylvania Power and Light Co.

     The couple will be honored at an open house to be held at their home from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, June 28.3


     Grace Mildred was listed in Walter Henry Hafer's obituary on 10 July 1964 Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, as his daughter.5 Her obituary was published sometime in November 1965 Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Her obituary stated:

     Mrs. Grace Sholder, 52, of Williamsport RD 2, was pronounced dead on arrival at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 1965, at the Williamsport Hospital.

     She was a member of Bethel United Presbyterian Church.

     Surviving are her husband, James L; a son Leonard P., of Pleasant Gap; a daughter, Mrs. Lois Robinson, of Linden RD 1; her mother, Mrs. Walter Hafer, also of Linden RD 1; three sisters, Mrs. Paul Bower, Mrs. Wilbur Grove and Mrs. Frank DeRemer, all of Williamsport RD 2; two brothers, Kenneth Hafer, of Nisbet, and Paul Hafer, of Linden, and three grandchildren.

     The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the church on Bottle Run Road. Burial will be in Buchanan Cemetery. Friends may call at Knight's, 1912 Memorial Avenue, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.2
