Joseph Musgrove Whitaker1

     Joseph Musgrove Whitaker was born on 25 August 1755 at Leeds, England.1 He was the son of James Whitaker and Ann Musgrave.1 Joseph Musgrove Whitaker married Sarah Updegrove, daughter of Jacob Updegrove and Sarah Butler, after 1776.1 Joseph Musgrove Whitaker died on 22 May 1838 at age 82 years, 8 months and 27 days.1
     Joseph M. Whitaker came to America with the British Army in 1776. He landed at North East, Maryland, and joined with the colonial cause. He later settled in Berks County, Pennsylvania where he worked as a wood cutter at Hopewell Furnace. He did broadcloth weaving on the side as well as family subsistance farming. He and Sarah are buried somewhere near Hopewell Furnace, Berks County, Pennsylvania, but their graves cannot be currently located.
