Benjamins 1821 and Samuels 1819 christnings give their father as George of Westgate, Pembroke, St Marys.
From a transpcrition of Pembroke borough Accounts a Geo Barnes rented a house from 1814 to 1819 for the sum of £4 each year, typical entry as follows:- 16th Oct 1819 Recvd of Geo Barnes One Years Rent due Michs 1819 £4

1841 census does not show George with Martha, he is shown with 12 others in the Dockyard census? b Monkton
1851 census shows George age 61, Widdowed, Pensioner with Granson, Alfred at 15 Queen St E, Pem Dock.
1861 census gives George age 74, Married Yard Superannuation List at 15 Queen St with Mary Barnes, wife, age 46, b Stackpole Elidor (just SW of Pembroke town & Monkton, very close to Freshwater).

Update Oct 2011 – It now appears that George did remarry in 1850 to a Mary Voil from Stackpole Elidor
A Mary Barnes, widdow, 66 is shown as the sister of Lititia Thorne wife of Anthony in 1881 at Llanstadwell.

Mary did indeed have a sister Lititia

There are conflicting birth dates for both George and his wife in various records, there may have been more than one George and Martha Barnes! We cannot be sure that all the children shown are in fact correct but George & Samuel have been confirmed by census records and Benjamin by family records.

A George d 5 june 1809 and Elizabeth d 20 Feb 1837 both age 86 are buried at Monkton churchyard, these may be the parents of George, also John b 1787? and William b 1793 d 1823 possible brothers, but this is unproven.

Several records show a George Barnes shoemaker of Munkton who was made Burgess in 1811, who also (it would seem) had a wife named Martha! OR is this the same George who give up shoemaking?

George married 1 Martha Phillips on 3 Dec 1809 in Amroth Parish Church, Pembrokeshire. Martha was born about 1785. She died on 8 Oct 1847. She was buried in Park St, Pembroke.

1841 census gives Martha age 55 and 2 children at home, George age 24 and Samuel age 20, all on Queen St E, Pembroke Dock.
