Records We Have On-Site

There are extensive records on Microfilm/fiche, CDs and in books in the HBFHA room, to help you trace your family's genealogy. These include the St. Catherine's House Index on Microfiche, English Probates, Australian BDMs on microfiche and CD,  1881 and some 1891 Census of British Isles on CD, Maryborough Chronicle Films with indexes (indexes 1900-1930 on microfiche and 1885 -1940 on CD), Immigration records, Cemetery Records including the Maryborough Council burial records at the Maryborough Cemetery, up to January 2005, on CD (does not include records of cremations).

For more information, see What we have in our Genealogy Library. (Tutorial on how to search library resources is on this page).   Wondering why to join a Family History Society, here's  8 Great reasons to join a local Family History Society

On site there are 2 microfilm readers, 1 microfiche reader, a book reader/copier and 6 on-line computers available for your use.  We also have equipment to view pages from fiche or microfilm, like the Maryborough Chronicle archive films on-site, and save to a flash drive, or print them out. The Association has also purchased subscriptions at Ancestry.com, Find My Past (Aus), Find My Past (UK), British Origins and World Vital Records, for researching on-line records. All copies and print-outs are at a nominal charge per page. Avoid disappointment and book a machine (2 hr maximum) by dropping in to our room, or by calling 4197-4237.

The Maryborough Chronicle Indexing Project
(1860 - 1940)

Janet Martin is in the process of indexing 'All local names mentioned' in the Maryborough Chronicle newspaper and making it available on 2 CDs.  These CDs provide a very valuable research tool when used in conjunction with the http://www.trove.nla.gov.au newspaper archive website or the microfilms of the Chronicle at the Family History Centre, for finding people,  information about people, and events in SE Queensland, between 1860 and 1940 that is otherwise not available in some cases due to the Privacy Act.
