This map shows "roughly" what townships fell into what counties about 1871. Readers MUST remember that county lines changed so frequently that you must check before ordering census records, etc. to verify you have the right county! As an example, in 1825, Compton fell into Richelieu County. In 1831-1851, it was in Sherbrooke County, ending up in Compton in 1861 and remaining there. The 11 counties are: Arthabaska, Brome, Compton, Drummond, Megantic, Missisquoi, Richmond, Shefford, Sherbrooke, Stanstead and Wolfe.
