On the 12th day of August 1822 personally appeared in Open Court, being
a court of record for the County aforesaid, Britton George, a resident
of said County, aged about 80 (b. c1742) years who being first duly
sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following statement,
in order to obtain the provision made by the Acts of Congress of the
18th March 1818, and 1st May 1820. That he enlisted for one year at
the first term under Capt. Hale Dixon in the State of North Carolina,
Bute County, Bell's old store in the 1st Regt, of North Carolina an
Continental Establishment, Commanded by Colonels Clark and Nash, that
he served twelve months and again enlisted for enduring the war
under the same Capt, Commanded by the same officers in the same regt.
An Continental establishment - That he continued to serve in the said
regiment until the close of the the war, when he was discharged from
said service at Charlestown by Capt. Hall in the regt. then Commanded by
Colo Lyttle and Maj. M. Rea.
That he was in the Battle of Moores Bridge in North Carolina, Cross Creek,
- at the battle of Brunswick, - at the battle at Sullivans Island, at the
battle at Germantown, - that he was wounded in too places at the battle
of Germantown, One in the left Knee, and the other in the right thigh -
And in pursuance of the act of the 1st May 1820, do solemnly swear that
I was a resident Citizen of the United States, on the 18th day of March
1818, and that I have not since that time by gift, sale, or in any manner
disposed of my property, or any part thereof with intent thereby so to
diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress,
entitled an set to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and
Naval Service of the United States in the Revolutionary War passed on the
18th day of March 1818 and that I have not, nor has any person in trust
for me, any property or Securities, contracts or debts to me, nor have
I any incurred other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed,
and by me subscribed -to wit, an two year old horse beast - Has a wife name
Sally (Dolly?) about 60 years of age - has two children living with him,
one about 15 years of age, the other about 13 years of age, that he is a
farmer by profession, and is now blind, as so I vow to.

for said County, do hereby Certify that the foregoing oath and schedule
thereto annexed are truly Copies from the original on file in Said Court -
And I further Certify that it is the opinion of said Court that the
total amount in value of the property exhibited in the aforesaid schedule
is twenty five Dollars.
In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal
of said Court at Offen in Carthage, this 27th day August 1822 and 47th
year of Our Independence.

I Briton George aged eighty five years do upon oath testify and declare
that in the year one thousand seven hundred and twenty seven I enlisted
for the term of during the war and served in the first regiment first
commanded by Colonel Clark of the North Carolina Line and that
I continued in the service aforesaid to the end of the war when I was
regularly discharged from the said line and regiment then commanded by
Colonel Litle (to wit the first regiment) I further declare that I have
never received a warrant for the bounty land promised to me on the part
of the United States nor have I ever assigned or transferred my claim
in any manner whatever.

Know all men by these presents that I Briton George aforesaid do
hereby constitute appoint and ordain the honourable George McDuffin
to be my true and lawful attorney for me and in my name do ask
demand and receive from the Secretary of War of the United States
a warrant for the quantity of Land due to me as aforesaid and
foreward the same to Spartanburgh Courthouse South Carolina to
the rec d Hugh Moore.

I Wm Little aged seventy one years do upon oath declare that I am and
have long been acquainted with Briton George who has subscribed the
above declaration in my presence and well know that he is the identical
person he therein represents himself to be and further I know that he
did perform the Military Service therin stated.

Before me Briton George personally appeared the same who subscribed
the foregoing declaration and in my presence acknowledged the power
of attorney thereto subjoined to be his free act and deed and likewise
personally appeared Captain Wm. Little who hath subscribed the above
certificate of Identity both to me well known to be men of respectability
and truth and made solemn oath to the truth of the depositions by them
respectively subscribed this tenth day of December 1826.

Personally appeared Captain Wm. Little before me and duly made oath
that he was well acquainted with Breton or Brittain George throughout
the war of the revolution (the within applicant for Bounty Land from
the United States) the said Wm. Litle solemnly swears that he was a
Cap'tn in the first North Carolina regiment of Continentals and that
at the End of the War the said regiment was commanded by Colonel Archibald
Litle and this deponent further swears that Brittain George did actualy
serve faithfuly to the End of the War and that he (Wm Litle) did deliver
said George his discharge after it was officially known of the ratification
of peace at Paris in France and that the said discharges was made out for
the whole reg'mt in June or July 1783, pursuant to an order of Congress
and held in reserve by the commanding officer of said regiment until it
should be officially made known that peace was ratified for fear the
Enemy might take some advantage by disbanding the troops

I certify that from an examination of the claim of the
heirs of the late Robert George, dec'd, who was a Captain in the
Illinois regiment; I am satisfied that he served to the end of
the war, that he survived until the latter end of March, eighteen
hundred and four; that he died without issue; that Andrew Ferguson
(??) And the other heirs mentioned in the accompanying papers, are
entitled as such to the benefits of the act of July 5, 1832;
I do therefore give it as my opinion that the claim should be paid
to the heirs from the eleventh of April seventeen hundred and eighty-
three, the termination of the war, up to the fifteenth of March
eighteen hundred and four, at the rate of Two hundred and forty
dollars per annum. I also certify that the Honorable John Carr,
a Member of Congress from Indiana, a attorney for of Henry Harrod
of Clark County, Indiana, the administrators, is duly authorized
to receive the amount due.

In reply to your query respecting the case of Captain Robert
George, dec'd, I have the honor to inform you that the claim of the
heir, under the act of July 5, 1832, was allowed on the 19th of
February 1836, at the rate of $240 per annum, from the 11th of
April 1783 when the war terminated, the 15 March 1804, the day
of his death. The amount due was paid to the Hon. John Carr,
an attorney for Henry Harrod, the administrator.
