Comments:
Thanks for all the information. I need some information on Junius Sarratt, my greatgrandfather, and on Samuel Edward Sarratt (my grandfather) His parents died when he was a small child and he was raised by other family members. Both of them lived in Cherokee county. I would like to learn more information on this.

Also my dad's house in Cherokee county may very well be the original property of John Sarratt, son of Samuel and Elizabeth Sarratt. My sister is in the process of restoring the property now. The house was at one time owned by the Allison family mentioned in some of the information given in your records. My dad got the property from the Allison family. Also the property is about 220 acres located near the Broad River and bordering on or near Mike's Creek. The 220 acres is now owned by my sister, brother and me. Any information you can give me will be appreciated. We have lots of old deeds, platts, etc that we are trying to understand and decipher at this time. I have given you my school e-mail, but I also have e-mail at home. I live at 612 Russell Road Camden, S.C. 29020
Thanks for all your hard work and send me any information that would be helpful.

My g-grandmother was Hattie Josephine Surratt m. Wm. D. Marshall Oct. 13, 1868, lived in New Hanover/Pender Co.NC. I am trying to find documentation for DAR application on both sides. I love tracing my family and would like any leads that are out there. Hattie's brother, John, was in NC in 1850 but don't know where he went after that.

My father was James T. Humphries, son of Edwin H. Humphries, whose father was Lewis Humphries married to Mary Ann Hoover. Lewis'father was David Humphries married to Artie (Artessa) Jones. David Humphries was son of William Humphries, who was son of John Humphries and Julia Frances Ellis Humphries.
(Information came from geneology report by Margaret Ann Davis in 1959. I am currently trying to verify her information).

Edwin H. Humphries was born in Texas in July 1874, married Vennie Elizabeth Burgess, had 12 children, and died April 29, 1916 in the Texas Panhandle. According to my dad, Edwin died of complications of appendicitis when my dad was a child.

I have several puzzles. When and why did Lewis go to Texas, since I believe he was buried in North Carolina? According to my information, Lewis had married a Mary Ann Hoover and they had 7 children. Was there two Lewis Humphries?

I am in possession of a legal document to partition property located in Gaffney, SC. relative to a piece of land situated one mile east of Providence Church, Limestone Township containing 188 acres bounded on the north by lands of Mrs. J. E. Sarratt and describing as Lewis' heirs, Mary Humphries (widow), and the following children - H. H. Humphries, Aubrey T. Humphries and Herman G. Humphries, and James Little Humphries, Corrie H. Hoover, Minnie H. Darby, Stella H. Turner, Dairy H. Ridisall, children of a predeceased son, E. H. Humphries to wit; J. T. Humphries, E. H. Humphries, Jr., Nolan Humphries, Beroy Humphries, Floyd Humphries, Louise Humphries,Tennie H. Hobbs, Mildred H. Belle, and Clara H. Howell, as well as the children of a predeceased daughter, Etta Phillips,to witt: Furman Phillipps and Floy Burnett.

Does anyone have any information to add to or help on this?

Very nice website. In my family tree, there is a Sarrat Atty Wilson born 1765, married to Nancy Ellis, had 6 children. All I know is 2 of his 6 children Thomas born Oct. 29, 1797 and Ephriam Nov.9, 1807. Sarrat had a brother named John. I'm looking for names of Sarrat's parents' names. His Mother's maiden name might be Sarrat/Sarrat. This is my daughter's e:mail. I appreciate any information that would be helpful. Thank you.

Hi, Paul....just got a look at your revised pages...as always I am stunned at the amount of info you have/and continue to pull together and then put out for everyone to make use of...it is an amazing accomplishment.

Still fiddling diddling around with the Spartanburg Co/Cherokee/York...Huskeys and still looking for John married to Nancy Bridges, daug. of William and either married or not to Cynthia Minerva Greenleaf Hardin in about 1860...somedays I wonder if he really did exist except for showing up on the censuses and in the church records.

Marvin and I have made several intense searches in Rutherford, York, cherokee and spartanburg and find nothing that Shirley Huskey Roberts and the late J. C. Huskey haven't turned up.
I've been thru every data base online that I can find and nothing new there.
At this point I am beginning to deal with the reality that we probably are going to just have process of elinination guesses for some of our line and then learn to live with it!
I continue to get queries for new Huskey researchers and I try to help them with what we have/know/guess/hope is good information.

At the moment working with a man who is a descendent of Frances Surratt and William Humpries..their girls Jane and Susannah married Barney and Thomas, brothers.
We think that our elusive John is either a son or brother to them, but have turned up nada in proof..
you've looked in your stuff once for me, so don't go there again unless you have come on some new info in the past 2-3 years on the gaffney bunch.
each time we go up there and I see the surratt name all over the cemeteries, i think of you and all your generousity. I know I speak for many who have benefited from your tireless work..
Take care...and again...LOVE your pages...

Wish I had known of all the wonderful resources available. I started the hard way and received a lot of assistance from a number of people I found on the Internet who read messages I posted in several southern counties. I'm trying to trace the Daffron's before 1750. Am wondering if I will have any success.

Paul,

I'm curious as to your BROWN connection. I descend from John Brown (b. 1812, SC, son of John G., grandson of Edward). John married Sarah H. Golding and produces Minerva who, in turn, married Jesse C. Nance. Their daughter, Elizabeth Nance, marries my great grandfather, John Preston Mayfield. If you have an interest in any of my info and/or would like to share any mutual lines, please contact!
