HUMPHRIES migrated to Township 1, present-day Cleveland Co., NC. then he married, 1788 to Francis SURRATT (1753-1848), in Spartanburg District, SC. She was a resident of Cleveland Co., NC."

1753 - 1848Possible Record Problem #1! No grave markers listed in [ Moss & Amos, Vol.'s of 1984] Cemetery record books.
Possible Record Problem #2! In the Humphries Heirs Trust, of 1932, by JC Coleman Humphries. The Humphries Trust was written to clarify this William Humphries of NC. from the other William Humphries from SC that served in America Revolutionary War, and received ARW Pension, and another William Humphries from NC. that did also.
Both Williams HUMPHERIES have markers, placed side-by-side in the Camp's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in NC. Unfortunately, neither of these markers have dates, and as our ancestors that placed it there are on this earth no more, there is no way to tell which is which. The article states that it is known that 5 children are by Williams Humpheries's second wife, Francis SARRATT. [REF:#007]

I would like to know her maiden name. Maybe she was a MORGAN or ELLIS or one of the other early ones. Their first son was named ANDERSON HUMPHRIES, so I also wonder if she were an ANDERSON. |
